I think this is fair - any less, Philly has no incentive, any more, MTL declines. Pretty solid spot on value.

You can’t trade a #overall pick after 2 seasons. And seasons he’s been injured.

No way Phily does this deal IMO. The 1st round pick helps out, but I just don’t see them giving up on Patrick like this.

It's probably going to take at least another 2nd if you want Detroit to even consider that.

I disagree Patrick missed his entire 3rd season due to concussions we and since returning he has 8 points in 38 games. So the fact that he was the #2OA 4 seasons ago doesn't mean much now.

Sure it does. Investing a 1st round pick means you invested capita, time and resources in a player.

Good luck. I don’t see it happening or them trading Patrick.

ELCs restrict the capita invested in said player and its a team development staff working with said prospects. So that department is tasked with working with all prospects. Are some of the higher draft picks allotted more leash in playing? Yeah, probably depending on the coach but it most will prefer to give veterans the playing time until they completely lose that roster spot (look at Trotz). Just because a player was drafted high doesn’t mean their value is higher. Look at Yakupov or the rumored ask for Poolparty from Holland.

Sure it does. With that team, it definitely does. And it shows potential to other teams.

But with the team that drafted that prospect, They used capital to get that prospect(Not to mention a bigger contract and signing bonus). Draft capital. That’s exactly what the word means. It’s makes a players value. Value is based on capital along with other measures.

The capital it took to acquire a player or using draft capital on player creates his value.

I guess you didn’t read the top huh? Theyve tried getting rid of him. The price is low right now

That potential is under the assumption the player is ranked high on someone else’s board. We’ve seen multiple GMs come out and say Patrick wasn’t their top pick and some teams will even remove a player based on injuries from their draft board. Potential goes both ways, in that he’s 22 years old, he’s not a finished product but he’s also D+4 season and that draft didn’t have a consensus home run top end at draft time. So when we say potential what exactly are you saying? That he could be potentially what? And what are the odds? What does he need to work on to get there? These questions come up because why would a team pay a premium for a player with his injury history with the assumption he goes to the next step? You wouldn’t because their is risk associated with said asset so you’d offer the value of something in between his current production and full potential. Would Philly take that offer? I don’t know nor does anyone on this site.

U are confusing potential with value.

But yes, potential is also another factor in a players value. Along with the draft capital used on him.

There are many factors in a players value. And yes, a top pick does prove potential. It screams potential. It means someone, a professional, a colleague thought highly enough of him to use “very valuable” draft capital on him.

Your first post implies there is a direct correlation with potential and player value. My questions relate to that said perceived value.

Sure, like I said, potential is one of many things that are included in a players value. One of many!! You are confusing potential as being the only thing.

No, I’m saying a team isn’t going to pay for a small chance that he lives up to his draft slot from 4 years ago. If teams just pay for current production he isn’t getting remotely a top end pick/futures/etc. Your only argument is teams paying for his potential which I’ve addressed.

I’ll guarantee N.Patrick doesn’t get traded. Like I already addressed, few teams give up on a #1 overall draft pick, that quickly. Good luck though man. I hope he ends up Hab and has a HOF career for them.

You can’t guarantee that unless you’re Fletcher. He’s also a second overall behind Hischier but maybe the Habs can make a move for him for you.

Yep, you’re right 2nd overall. Well, I bet my house with my GF and everything else in it he doesn’t get traded until after a 2nd contract.
