I think Vatanen could be a good fit in Montreal if he plays with a defensive partner. In NJ, he's forced to play a two-way game and he's horrible at that.

Butcher is an interesting case. Most people think he's bad but in reality, he just doesn't fit the Devils defense and team anymore. Butcher is a very good offensive defenseman but we have too many offensive defensemen (Smith, Subban, etc). The Devils have to have some defensive defensemen to balance out the defensemen. The emergence of Ty Smith really pushed Butcher out of the lineup. I still think Will Butcher could be a solid offensive defenseman in the league, but not on the Devils. In the few games he did play, Butcher looked solid. I hope he gets a fresh start on a new team, preferably Montreal

The coach changed.
He is a great buy low for teams that need a creative, puck-moving LHD.
Not a PP1 guy on most teams, but can handle PP2. He is better in zone than on rush. Whereas Ty Smith could do both, and so Lindy preferred Smith.

I hope he gets a chance after the TDL
