Description
In the 31 Thoughts blog Elliotte Friedman wrote that Bergevin was working on something involving moving Lehkonen to create cap space. Now I absolutely hate the idea of parting with Lehky, although acquiring Ekholm would lessen the pain a bit.

Also, Tuch can probably be swapped out with Myšák, Farrell, Struble, or Harris if any of them fit better for the Predators. Also if they wanted a player instead of the 2nd, they could have Brook or Poehling too.

And yes, the cap does work out, it just means that Montréal will likely have around $700K in performance bonus overages next year.

Nashville won't sell guys with term, or at least that would be dumb of them.

I love Lekhonen on a bottom 6 role. He's clearly a really good piece and I'd like to have him for the upcoming seasons. Let's be real there is at least one of Danault and Tatar that will sign elsewhere and Armia is probably out too... But man he's been not good this year... On top of that there are no space for him rn in the lineup. Swapping Byron and him is the only option and tbh I don't know if Lehkonen is that of an uppgrade on Byron... Byron has been good on a 4th line role (Not saying his salary fits what he gives but yeah...)

I completely understand why he’s a healthy scratch this year. Although I don’t want to move him because I like him a lot as a player, and also because we’ll likely lose Staal, Armia, and Tatar in free agency like you said.

I guess we’ll see. The team definitely has been better of late, but is Poile really going to lose some value from players just so they can get destroyed by the Lightning, Panthers, or Hurricanes in the 1st round? I don’t know.

I have no idea which other defenseman Montréal would be willing to move Lehkonen to acquire though.

Its a weak draft class, some prospects haven't played, scouts have limited travel/attendance. Hard to value 2021 draft picks equivalent to a normal year.

Also preds want an elite prospect, preferably a forward. Without Caufeld being involved MTL is not getting Ekholm. (and I would not expect MTL to move Caufeld anytime soon)

With Nashville now in a playoff spot I dont see them moving Ekholm.

At least what Friedman says doesn’t happen, so that’s a good thing

I’m not sure exactly what you mean, but it’s not 100% confirmed for sure. He just said that’s something Bergevin was looking into, and I’m assuming moving Lehkonen would be dependent on who he’s acquiring.

Friedman talks a lot, yes he heard things, but it’s so rare that they happen for real

This isn’t him just speculating. He’s said for sure that this is something Bergevin has looked into. And obviously not everything ends up going through, but it’s not like he’s lying about what teams are thinking of doing.
