I like Wood > Compher. Younger, scores more, costs less and longer path to UFA.
And the picks are about a wash.

You're right that Wood's situation is slightly better, but it's not that different. They're both 25 so have exactly the same number of years of team control. Wood is arbitration eligible after his current deal is up and could take a 1 year deal taking him straight to UFA in 2023, the same time as Compher.

Do you not think the value of the picks offset the difference in value between Wood and Compher?

If Colorado is picking 29th and NJD picking 37th and in 4th round...the picks wash out to ~equal value.
Wood for Compher + 1st maybe. But still don't know why NJD does that.
Would want younger player, even if it means lower pick, back.
