Its not actually 4 million, its 50% of Buffalo's retention. Double retention. The Leafs did it last year for CHI/VGK trade and received a 5th. So in total Chicago retains 2,000,000 in cap, but in real dollars it only costs them around $250,000 or so.

Think the intention is Buffalo takes $4M, Chicago takes $2M (for the 4th round pick) and Toronto takes the rest.

Big overpay for the ineffective Hall. Then to wait weeks for him just to get into the lineup, after Kerfoot has left no thanks.
In some ways, it's the same Ekblom, though he is a good player. Leafs don't have him for three weeks once the trade is announced and then top 6 Dman Dermot isn't on the team, and neither is 7th Dman Liljegren. So for three weeks, Marincin and Rosen are in the now the 6th/7th guys...no thanks.

Sorry did you need a 5000 word essay on why it's not a good trade for the Preds? There are far too many proposals like this from Leafs fans on here, to do a deep dive on every one. It would become a full time job. Dermott holds less value to NSH than the 3rd does. Liljegren and a 1st isn't enough for Ekholm, even before the retention. Better?

Sandin should be included in the Ekholm deal...

If Toronto wants Hall, we demand a 1st be involved. End of story.
