They aren't trading their starting goalie, leaving them with basically nothing in net for a under performing bottom 6 winger.

If Pittsburgh want to upgrade in net it might be prudent to move Jarry, particularly as his stats this season are pretty pedestrian:

0.909 sv% (30th among goalies with 500 mins played)
2.86 GAA (33rd)
0.53 GSAA (29th)
0.796 (31st)

Please try to read the trade description, where I specifically said: "by moving Jarry they open up a roster spot to go after a starting goalie." Obviously Pittsburgh wouldn't move Jarry without bringing in another starter.

Mackinnon to DeSmith is WAAAAY more different in value compared to Jarry and Compher.

If they want ilana upgrade in net they'll trade for one. But trading Jarry is not the move. He started off terrible, but hes finding his way quickly. Hes been doing great the past 15 games and trading him would make our goaltending issue worse. Jarry would lose his confidence if he was ever traded or talked about getting traded.

They got a guy who's decent in net. Not saying he's the greatest in the world, but he can play decent. They aren't going to move him for that.
If goalies were so available why doesn't COL just go sign one? Who wouldn't want to join them right?

Kuemper or Raanta maybe? Or how about Merzlikins? Merzlikins would give Pittsburgh a legit starter for just $500k more than Jarry, and his contract term coincides with Malkin's contract too. That would give Pittsburgh a good starter to give them two last go's at the cup before a rebuild.

Anyways, it was just a spontaneous idea, so take this AGM for what it is. Just threw it out there to explore possible trade avenues between Avs and Pittsburgh given that Avs had scouts at the NJ/PIT game on Sunday, and Pittsburgh had scouts at last nights Avs game...

Bringing in Merzlikins for 2 playoff runs, and moving Jarry for a forward or Dman would give Pittsburgh a much better shot at the cup in their last 1-2 years of being a playoff team before the inevitable rebuild.

The trade is bad. Would never happen. Why would they make this deal and then immediately give anyone with a "starting goalie" an edge in a future trade?

^ like he said. Jarry is the starting goalie & it is just as insulting to trade Jarry for Compher as it is Mackinnon for DeSmith.

Merzlikins is not a ufa and CBJ would never send him to PIT.
Kuemper is also not a ufa. They would have to trade to get him. So lets trade away pieces to get a goalie after they sent the starting goalie off for a bottom 6 winger. Come on man.

I admit that I underestimated Jarry's value, because I overlooked that he's had a resuregence since his ugly start to the season.
