Description

Ovi wants to finish his career in Washington, and that's understandable. But what if he decided to pursue Gretzky's all-time career goal record in earnest? Playing next to McDavid for a year could give his numbers a huge boost. Besides, there would be something poetic about doing so in the sweater that Gretzky played in all those years.

After a season with McDavid, Ovechkin should be comfortably in 3rd place and within spitting distance of Gordie Howe, about 110 short of Gretzky's all-time record of 894. It may not be enough, but it'll at least make things interesting over the next 5 years.

Ouch! I hadn't heard that... he certainly isn't worth $10M anymore. The Caps are actually a better team when he's on the bench rather than the ice - he's all empty calories, as they say.

I don’t think this is as crazy as some I’m sure will suggest it being but IF he was to chase the record no better place however 5-5 I see him with Leon not mcdavid. Leon is a better set up man 5-5 for a pure shooter like ovi. It’s about gaining entry and creating cycle to maximize Ovis shot mcdavid is more of a off the rush chaos.

I missed the Kesselring signing - I was expecting him to play in the NCAA for another year. I guess getting him into Dave Manson's hands will help him more than NCAA would.

Lol don’t need ovi that bad!!! Haha if he was to choose to come to Edmonton it would be to chase that record and hopefully get another cup would be a “value” deal not coming for the money. I think Leon sets the price bar for anyone not named mcdavid.

Not all of his underlying numbers are as good as that, but I have no doubt that he's capable of being a 1A goalie who is young enough (27) to play at this level for the duration of the contract and beyond.
