Is Allen available in the expansion draft? If I'm Seattle I'm taking Allen who has been a top 10 goalie in the league over the last two years.

The alternative is MTL convinces Price to waive his NMC, in which case if I'm Seattle I would probably take him too just because of the fact that he has the reputation of a star and he is somewhat of a local having played his junior hockey in the region and has family ties there. It's a good player to market the new franchise.

Edit:
I feel like there may be incoming Price isn't worth it for Seattle comments so to get ahead of it: When price is on he is still one of the top goalies in the league. Since his goalie coach was fired he has a GSAx of 3.55 which would put him 12th out of all goalies this season if it was a clean slate for Price. It's not, and he will need to keep up this play to convince anyone he can somewhat live up to his contract but he has been himself of late.

Wild don't need Brett

The last thing wild need is a d. So no thanks from wild. Wild aren't giving up any picks for 7th d / suite guy at best who won't play on wild

I think Seattle will pick Allen unless Montreal offers up a 3rd round pick (or higher) but I wouldn't call him a top 10 goalie in the league over the past two years.

My top 10 goalies since 2019 would be:
1. Hellebuyck
2. Vasilevsky
3. Fleury
4. Price
5. Andersen
6. Rask
7. Binnington
8. Bobrovsky
9. Grubauer
10. Markstrom

Allen is 47th in wins in the past two years.

Edit: As I continued to write this I realised that he is 3rd is S% and 2nd in GAA (for goalies with 10 games) over the past 2 years. So I guess you got a point.

Yeah it depends what you consider to be important for goalies, I mean calling Allen a top 10 goalie in the league seems like stretch because he hasn't had the workload to earn it but he outplayed Binnington in a split start role last season and he has outplayed Price so far this season in a back up role.

I only look at Evolving Hockey's GSAx stat now for evaluating goalies as it is the only stat that looks at individual performance rather than team performance for goaltending that I know about. SV% and GAA does not take the difficulty of shots faced into account where as GSAx does.

Top 10 goalies so far this year:
1 Andrei Vasilevskiy
2 Marc-Andre Fleury
3 Thatcher Demko
4 Alex Nedeljkovic
5 Semyon Varlamov
6 Petr Mrazek
7 Jack Campbell
8 Jake Allen
9 Calvin Petersen
10 Philipp Grubauer

*Big drop off after the top 3.

And last year:
1 Connor Hellebuyck
2 Darcy Kuemper
3 James Reimer
4 Corey Crawford
5 Chris Driedger
6 Tuukka Rask
7 Carter Hart
8 Jake Allen
9 Calvin Petersen
10 Anton Khudobin

*Massive drop after Hellebuyck.

The only flaw in the stat in my opinion is it doesn't account for workload. You could argue sample size as well but GSAx is a totals based stat not an average so a goalie that plays more should have an advantage providing they actually give good goaltending.

https://evolving-hockey.com/stats/goalie_standard/?_inputs_&std_gl_str=%22All%22&std_gl_adj=%22Score%20%26%20Venue%22&std_gl_fa=%2250%22&std_gl_info=%22No%22&std_gl_range=%22Seasons%22&std_gl_table=%22On-Ice%22&std_gl_span=%22Regular%22&std_gl_group=%22Team%2C%20Season%22&std_gl_dft_yr=%22All%22&std_gl_players=null&std_gl_team=%22All%22&std_gl_season=%2220202021%22&std_gl_age1=%2217%22&std_gl_age2=%2250%22

Edit:
I urge you to check out Carey Price's GSAx over the years, they are not pretty as of late. The good news is since the goaltending coach change he has a GSAx of 3.55, if that trend continues he should be back in the top 10 by seasons end which would be significant because Price hasn't been in the top 10 since he won the Hart, when he put up a GSAx of 38.88, the 5th best GSAx since it was tracked (Lundqvist has the record of 53, also has had 3 other seasons better than Price's best. Bobrovsky is the only goalie to have a better season than Price since his Hart trophy win, a GSAx of 45.)
