I’ll start out by saying the value is in the reasonable realm
But if I’m looking at it from the Sabres’ point of view,
I’d probably turn it down
Reason being: if they can’t compete with Eichel & Reinhart,
then u can’t figure they’d be any better with Tkachuk & Monahan.
One would have to assume that if they’re trading Eichel & Reinhart that they’re gonna be in rebuild mode again.
Tkachuk makes sense as a main piece in a rebuild, bc he’s still only 23. But Monahan is probably too old.
So i think to make this trade work, you’d have to (at least) take out Monahan & add another great young player- so likely either Pelletier or Valimaki- & then that 2nd or 3rd you’re giving up probably has to become a 1st
Yeah, it’s A LOT
But this would be a franchise altering trade for u guys
And u gotta remember, IF the Sabres make Eichel (& Reinhart) available, you’re gonna have to outbid half the teams in the league. So there’s no doubt you’ll pay more than you’d like.
Another option you’d have though....
take Reinhart out of the deal, and now you’re paying something like: two 1sts, & 2 high end young talents for just Eichel
Might have to add another asset there to beat out other bidders, but you’d at least be in the ballpark.
And either way, i think it’s fairly obvious that if u get Eichel you should trade Monahan, so you’ll get some assets back from that whichever way u go.
I’m a Sabres fan, so i don’t wanna see Eichel traded
But IF the Sabres decide to- the whole league is gonna get REALLY interesting
