I wasn't sure which young players to acquire. Does the 2022 draft have more mid round talent than 2021?
Here are some ideas...on young players
Islanders - they have a bunch of near-NHL ready d-man in Salo, Wilde and Bolduc. Any of them would be a steal for Kulikov & Zajac. RW Will Dufor could also be deeper option. He projects to be Nathan Bastian type, not much more.
Bruins - The pipeline is very thin...and for a Palmieri, Murray package, would likely have to be two or more prospects.
John Beecher is nice depth center and has always had some upside. Was playing 3rd line at Michigan before injury. Upside is early Zajac.
Mason Lohrei is big, 6'4" long stride offensive d-man tearing up USHL.
Urho Vaakanainen is more well-known but has very limited upside. Likely a #6 of #7 d-man.
One deeper guys I like in Victor Berglund, an offensive RHD, whose stock is rising.
Tampa Bay - Sami Vatanen's value isn't sky high right now, so guys like Cal Foote would be unreasonable ask. A few names that may work in one-for-one are
Maxim Cajkovic, strong skating RW with great shot. Likely a middle-six offensive weapon. TB probably declines, but never know.
Jack Thompson, an aggressive RHD, shots often, skates well. Bottom-pair projection, but with a lot of upside
Eamon Powell, undersized Boston College defender from USNTDP, has played some wing, small, good skating, skilled playmaking, raw prospect.
MTL - Really depends how they see Will Butcher. They have a bunch of def prospects worth grabbing
Kaiden Guhle, big defensive LHD. Top-4 upside. Probably outside reach in Butcher trade.
Jordan Harris, smaller two-way, puck-moving LHD. Probably their closest comparison to Will Butcher.
Mattias Norlinder, a fine skilled LHD, proving himself in top situations in SHL, a little risky decision making makes him divisive prospect
Jayden Strubble, like Harris also a Northeastern d-man, more of strong, physical player
Josh Brook, only RHD on this list, had huge success as offensive d-man in WHL, but yet to translate to AHL
After those d-man, some of their forwards to check out are Farrell, a small crafty playmaking forward now leading USHL in scoring and the younger Tuch, who is great finisher in close to net. Just stay away from Jan Mysak (big liabilities on skating, defense)
COL - for Dell, not going to get one of their top prospects, but there are some wild card wingers that are high risk guys with upside. Colby Ambrosio, Sasha Mutala, and Sampo Ranta (in that order).
CAR - mixed bag in Carolina. For Gusev, Jarvis and Gunler would not be available. They'd probably say Rees, Drury also off the table. Most of the others have some warts.
Puistola - great shot but small and slow
Bokk - reclamation project winger, question of how much upside is really there
Undersized guys who may just end up AHL all-stars in Zion Nybeck and Alex Pashin.
One guy I would consider is Jesper Sellgren, Swedish LHD. Nothing special about his game, but likely #6 or #7 d-man.
Another interesting one would be Jack Lafontaine, the goalie. He becomes free agent if not signed this spring. So price tag may be cheaper.
EDM - For Johnsson, guys like Lavoie and Holloway are unlikely.
Tullio has some top-6 playmaking ability, but undersized. Type of guy if you wait a year he will either be in untouchable tier, or not worth touching.
Tomas Mazura would be my wild card pick here. Czech who has been playing in NA for years. Has had some health issues, but the package is there. Huge frame 6'4", great passing, playmaking. High risk, high reward player. Only played a few junior level games...only prep school before that. He will likely take Tyce Thompson's spot in Providence's top-6 next year. (was linemate at KUA with Adam Fantelli last year)
Just some you prospects to consider
