I don't see the appeal of Eric Staal. His FO% is below 50. He has 8 points and is a -15 in 23 games this year. Staal get's a few more points than Turris but honestly, the slight upgrade isn't worth a 2nd. We already have so few draft picks. Ekholm at the right price might be ok but this season isn't worth selling our future for. We did that last year. A guy like Martinez in free agency next summer could play a similar role
I also see Holland trading down, hopefully 2 picks in the 35-65 range depending on what place we finish
If someone give us a pick for Chiasson 50% retained I'm in
Barrie trade is unlikely imo because we just signed him, he's playing well, and the teams playing well. Gives Edmonton a bad look for future free agents if we set a precedent of trading guys after 2 months, especially when they're playing so well (by playing well I mean putting up points. He's brutal defensively but by his standards this is a great season)
Staal is stuck on the worst team in the league. The fact that he's still close to 0.33pts/game is a miracle. Get him in a better environment and everything else should go back to something that more resembles his Minnesota numbers. There's the benefit of getting rid of Turris too.
Precedent schmesedent. Everything Barrie does Bouchard can do, but comes with more defensive acumen. The Oilers still need a few draft assets and he's an extraneous piece. His 1 year deal was clearly a show-me deal. Getting sent to Tampa is hardly a punishment.

Draft trade makes no sense in a vacuum. I mean sure Yzerman might do that if somebody they really like falls but that's pretty impossible to predict and otherwise isn't worth giving up 2 2nd's to move up what like 5-10 spots at the end of the 1st
That assumes Edmonton finishes around 24th, which I doubt they will. 32 picks per round this year, important to remember. It's anywhere between 12-15 spots depending on where both the Red Wings and Oilers finish. It absolutely makes sense.

That 1 rounder could be a lottery pick if things head south for the Oilers next year.
Nashville absolutely has to accept this.
With Edmonton returning to the Pacific next year, that is incredibly unlikely. Not hard to lottery protect it either.
