If you had Hischier, and you were on pace to draft top three this year, would you trade him for Kreider, make your team slightly older, and balance out your depth chart to finish two or three spots higher, but still way out of the playoffs?

You'd be giving up a top-five pick and giving up a fan-favorite player who's your team captain, to get a guy your team's fans have been booing for a decade. Would a 2nd round draft pick convince you?

Yes. They would be getting the big fast top-six winger that the Devils lack. Then draft another centre using that pick.

Yes. Kreider scored a hatty against a horrible Devils team. Kreider is 8 years older than Hischier and on a bad contract. Nico was just named captain so why would the Devils trade him?

Nope. Nico has way more potential. Way younger. Still has much more trade value.
