value is fine, but they definitely would want a center coming back bc of how valuable of a position it is

Yep that's the stumbling block, but I don't know the appeal Kadri would have for Buffalo because he would want to leave too and Newhook + Rantanen is too much for a disgruntled Ike on his own so we've got Buffalo adding something to even it up.

Maybe we could add Hall? Newhook would be a desirable target.

Well, it's just that Rantanen is certainly a great player, but our center depth would be terrible, and Rantanen has not an 8-year contract so that we can rebuild for so long. I don’t know what parts of Buffalo might interest you.

I get you. I’d be all for centering the deal around Newhook, but they would need o off set the contact value.

I’m not sure about the competition for an Ike trade, but if he asks out it will be bad.

So they themselves could trade him in the summer, although he did not ask for a deal. That is, they explored options in the summer and asked the teams what they were willing to pay for Jack. There is a season and a half left before his NMC, and it would be foolish to wait for it to take effect, then Jack will have all the leverage, and these clowns still cannot fix the sinking ship. Eichel even changed his avatar on Twitter and removed the mention that he is a Buffalo player.

Any deal for Jack Eichel starts with either Byram or Newhook.

I don't know what Buffalo management is thinking but I can tell you with all the respect that I get wanting at least one elite roster player in return for Eichel, but it really won't help the team with a proper rebuild.

I think you should want an elite prospect (Newhook, Kirby Dach would be another name for example) and then multiple first rounders and a second. The roster player Buffalo should get back should only be to help make the trade cap compliant.

That is how I see an Eichel trade working out for Buffalo. Anything less I feel would not be a proper rebuild and the team would then go through the same issues it's going through right now (not enough talent around Eichel).

Now drafting and developing talent? Different question altogether.

I'm not even sure if the problem is talent, look at the other teams, not all of them even have a better roster than Buffalo, but they play with passion and they can score a goal, they have a good coach and adequate management.

Just imagine that this list of players cannot score a goal in ES. How is this possible? Eichel, Hall, Reinhart, Skinner, Olofsson, Staal, Cozens, Ristolainen, Dahlin, Montour, Mittelstadt. This is ridiculous.

I do think they need to the cover of Ike asking out publicly.

How about Peterka to offset Newhook.

Again, with respect, I'm not convinced every guy in your list is as talented as you think. If you want, we can discuss each player but what's happening is teams look at Buffalo and say.. "let's do everything to shutdown Eichel's line and after that, we only need to play even against the rest of the lines" and what happens is teams outplay lines 2, 3 and 4.

I guess a big issue in Buffalo is drafting and development.
