I'm just sayin that you'd have a better chance at a cup. Also the avalanche aren't going into a rebuild any time soon, so stocking up on prospects wont help them if they already have depth and nhl caliber players playing. If Crosby were to be traded here though (most likely not gonna happen) then the pens would want a guy like byram back because he is young and the pens are going into a rebuild soon. But yes, Byram is untouchable by fans perspective. But if he was to be traded here I would hope that the pens would be able to get a return like this.
Avs are going to need all the ELC help they can get in order to keep the cup window open for a few years.
Byram is also not a prospect anymore, he's a bonafide top 4 NHL Dman, and has shown signs of being a franchise No.1 Dman. You don't trade that for anything other than perhaps a similarly aged young 1C (sort of like the Jones for Johansen trade), but even then you think long and hard about it because it could become a bad move for your team long-term like Nashville trading Jones. Needless to say, Crosby is not a similarly aged 1C, so a Byram-Crosby swap is completely out of the question.
