It just doesn't matter. Rielly is ****ing terrific but enough idiots on the internet say otherwise and it's now law. Petry is a career minis 100 or something, he's not bad but he's a 2nd pair guy and is overrated. It's just the group think bias
You continue to show your ignorance when it comes to Petry though. Your talking about group think when it comes to Rielly then you bring up Petry's career +/- numbers. He wasn't great in Edmonton, and Edmonton was horrible when he was there.
That has
nothing to do with the player he is today.
If you watched many Habs games that weren't just Leafs vs Habs over the last 2 or 3 years you would know he's their best dman, and a hell of a lot more than a decent 2nd pair guy.
I've watched Rielly play his entire career. I've defended Rielly for his entire career. Rielly is probably in my top 3 fav Leafs. IMO he'll retire a Leaf, and is likely a major glue guy when it comes to the dressing room.
But between the Leafs LHD depth (Muzz, Dermott, Sandin, Brodie can play LD) and Rielly's 7.5m or so contract coming up, I think the Leafs would be pretty well equal today, and better overall going forward by taking this proposed trade.
Obviously Petry's age is a consideration, but but the time his play begins to deteriorate, the players selected or acquired with those 1sts should still be making an impact on the team.
But, that's just my opinion.
