Me too. The fact that your first comments about Petry is he's old on a bad contract speaks volumes about your knowledge of the player.

He's fine but he certainly isn't as good as Rielly and could decline at any time. His contract sucks and Rielly is better and way younger.

Petry has had a Norris caliber impact this season and he hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. He’s playing like a D worth 7.5-8 mill per and his AAV on his next contract is only 6.2 mill. Definitely worth the risk.

He defends better than Rielly (that's clear), he'd be our most physical dman by far, and he can score at pretty close to Rielly's clip. So as of today, I don't see how Rielly is so much better. Petry > Muzzin considering he's almost as good defensively and adds way more offence.

Rielly will be more expensive in 2 years, so Leafs save cap long term.

Leafs are still set at LD after the trade both this season and especially going forward. If Leafs think Sandin will be anything then the slight downgrade from Rielly to Sandin is well worth it by making a major upgrade from Bogo to Petry.

Add in 2 1sts and a solid 3rd pair dman, and that easily tips the scales for me.

Rielly is elite offensively but he’s awful defensively, that hasn’t changed even with Brodie as his partner

its better for sure, Brodie is also a OF TWD

It just doesn't matter. Rielly is ****ing terrific but enough idiots on the internet say otherwise and it's now law. Petry is a career minis 100 or something, he's not bad but he's a 2nd pair guy and is overrated. It's just the group think bias

If they moved him it would be because Sandin has pushed him out which he hasn't so getting older and worse is a bad idea

You continue to show your ignorance when it comes to Petry though. Your talking about group think when it comes to Rielly then you bring up Petry's career +/- numbers. He wasn't great in Edmonton, and Edmonton was horrible when he was there.

That has nothing to do with the player he is today.

If you watched many Habs games that weren't just Leafs vs Habs over the last 2 or 3 years you would know he's their best dman, and a hell of a lot more than a decent 2nd pair guy.

I've watched Rielly play his entire career. I've defended Rielly for his entire career. Rielly is probably in my top 3 fav Leafs. IMO he'll retire a Leaf, and is likely a major glue guy when it comes to the dressing room.

But between the Leafs LHD depth (Muzz, Dermott, Sandin, Brodie can play LD) and Rielly's 7.5m or so contract coming up, I think the Leafs would be pretty well equal today, and better overall going forward by taking this proposed trade.

Obviously Petry's age is a consideration, but but the time his play begins to deteriorate, the players selected or acquired with those 1sts should still be making an impact on the team.

But, that's just my opinion.
