Seattle is not taking Neal without good compensation. Jones is not one. Jones is the most likely option to end up as the Seattle's pick.

The Oilers will likely be able to protect him. Klefbom is going to miss 56 games this season, the rule last expansion draft made anyone who missed 60 games (out of 82) exempt. Barrie and Larsson are free agents. Russell is not worth protecting and Bouchard is exempt. The Oilers will protect Nurse, Bear and one of Jones or Lagesson and ones has the much higher ceiling.

So Edmonton gives up their 23-year-old 1st pairing RHD AND their 1st and get... a couple of 3rd liners? Yeah...no. Not a chance.

After googling, found something like this:

Players with potential career-ending injuries who have missed more than the previous 60 consecutive games may be exempt from being selected with league approval

I don't see Klefbom meeting the criteria fully here. He played full year last year, he's now out with a shoulder injury, but don't think anything has pointed out to it being a career threatening one. I don't see him going that route under the league approval. Who knows. I think we'll be getting more info as the ExD gets closer.

As of now, I think EDM will be protecting Klefbom as they normally would. I'd advise against thinking EDM don't have to worry about protecting the guy.

Depends if the league prorates this year or not. They did last year for the purposes of screwing the Oilers out of a 3rd, but if it benefits the Oilers then likely not.

Lol I am not going to worry about what you advise as clearly you really dont know what you're talking about. Klefbom's injury absolutely has been discussed as career threatening.

If you're going to give bad opinions at least give some effort to know all the facts.

All things I've heard are that it's a chronic shoulder injury. It has been a problem for some time now, but didn't prevent him from playing last year, and he and team decided to sit out this year in order to make it better. Possibly picked this year due to it's uncertainty due to covid and all that. Haven't heard much about it being a career threatening one.

You're entitled to think about this situation whatever you like, but until NHL makes announces that Klefbom is exempt from the ExD, I will consider him to be a must protect for EDM just because of his level.

In the VGK draft, the players that got exempt due to injuries, such as Bolland, Horton, Clarkson, Franzen and Clowe were all players that were widely known that they wouldn't be playing a single game in the league anymore. So the case of career ending injury in comparison to those guys must be absolutely clear. NHL will let Klefbom to be exempt pretty much in only the case where he or his team announces he's calling it quits.

Klefbom's shoulder is so screwed he's not worth protecting even if he's coming back.

lavoie is not ready and Marody won't play in the NHL he can't get it together at the AHL level even. Based on recent results you would be crazy to not put Khaira as at least 4C with Archibald on RW. With the way Holloway plays you are better off putting him as 3 or 4 LW and letting him physically mature for a couple years and play sheltered minutes. He's not going to be able to play 24 minutes per night as a 19 year old in a checking role.

I think with Nurse stepping up you are in a better position now. Not knowing if klefbom will play or not or how long it will last really ties their hands with what they can do. if you use a protection on klefbom it is likely his replacement would get selected and then what do they do when he takes his yearly 20 games off?

Big questions ahead in Edmonton regarding the Klefbom situation.

In a sense, him being out for good could be a blessing in disguise, as they wouldn't lose anyone substantial to other team.

    But they'd lose Klefbom himself.

So no matter what, EDM will be losing something.
