At this point, Holtby looks awful -- why is it a foregone conclusion that SEA will take him? Every VAN post I see talking about expansion has SEA taking Holtby... If I'm SEA, I'm taking one of their younger guys (MacEwen maybe) or working out a deal with VAN to take Eriksson for a 1st or something.

      Ottawa declines

Vancouver will buyout Eriksson during the next buyout window.

You answered your own question. Holtby has been bad. Van doesn't want him. Therefore Seattle.will take him. Just like edm and Neal. Mon and Byron. Etc. Players diminished skill. Bad contract. Pawn them off on Seattle....

I don't get your mindset surrounding Holtby. Vancouver doesn't want him so therefore Seattle will automatically take him? That doesn't make sense to me. If he has a very subpar season & last season was pretty awful as well. Why would Seattle want to spend $4.3M on him as opposed to going after a goalie like Anton Khudobin, Jake Allen, or Antti Raanta (UFA)? All 3 of them are cheaper than Holtby, have significant starting experience over the last 2 years, & have been playing better than Holtby over that time frame.

If I'm Seattle, I save a little bit of cap & go with someone like MacEwen & fill out my goalie position elsewhere, especially if it means that Vancouver, a division rival, is saddled for another season with a declining goalie that they don't want.

My position is every Van expansion draft has Seattle taking Holtby. The initial question was why does every Van expansion draft have Seattle taking him. My answer is Van doesn't want him so they always pawn him off on Seattle. Seattle never takes him. Ever. Well short of adding on Boeser, Hughes, etc. Holtby would be the 6th/7th best goalie available not counting ufa goalies. Seattle passes on Holtby....

Ahhhhh I gotcha. I misread your initial comment. My b. Yeah, if he was still the Vezina caliber goalie he used to be it’d be a no-brainer, but I 100% agree that at the rate he’s going that there will be at least a half dozen better options on the goalie market for Seattle
