It might have been 6 years ago, but he's still only 24. Bennett should most certainly be given an opportunity to play on the top 6.

If EDM had given Strome a chance to play with McDavid or Draisaitl, he would currently be on EDM's top 6 putting up the kind of points he's now putting up with Panarin.

Strome did play with Draisaitl about 15% of that season and did produce with him. Bennett has played with Monohan and Gaudreau, 8% in 17-18 is the highest I can find, but he didnt produce with them anyway

Lol 8% of a 82 game season - so Benny got 6 games on the top line when he was 21 and didn't "produce" - go figure.

The long and the short of it is Benny continues to play like he has in the last 4 games Tre will be in no rush to trade him - He is worth way more to the Flames than most of the crap returns typically posted here.

Worst case scenario he has another "blah" regular season and we lose him to Seattle and clear $2.5 in Cap or move him at the deadline to a contender who wants his playoff presence for a pick.

Best case scenario, he is given a consistent opportunity to play with good linemates and he starts to bring playoff Bennett to everyday games. I would much rather roll the dice on this than trade him now for a McCann / Compher type player and inherit additional term and cap.

The comparison was Strome who got 10 games with Drai and did produce, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Worst case scenario is you waste a top 6 spot, he doesnt produce and you lose him for nothing instead of getting a prospect or a 2nd
