Mantha starts with Caufield + 1st round pick. Detroit doesn't need a pending UFA vet (they could sign for free this off-season if they wanted to), an overpaid 4th liner, or 2 mid round picks.

You wouldn't get Kotkaniemi. He's an already established NHL player that has more value than Mantha. Poehling could be had, but he shouldn't be the main prospect. Caufield fits Detroits timeline for a rebuild, so he'd be the start. Maybe closer with Caufield, Poehling, and a 1st. Could add more to both sides. Both Kotkaniemi is far out of the question.

The last 3 years he has been in the top 3 best lines in the NHL 5 on 5. Byron has speed to burn that is buried on a deep MTL roster. He can be a solid 3rd line guy that can give you 15 to 22 goals on a full season. Then you add the two draft picks, which can be upgraded.

I know Mantha hasn’t gotten off to the best start but I’d say he’s still very safe in Detroit. I wouldn’t trade him for Danault since he’d likely walk in free agency, and even if he didn’t, we’d just be swapping one hole for another.

Without kk we hang up, no need to trade him for players that do not fit our timeline or rebuild

Danault will go into free agency, he isn't sticking on a team that isn't going to win. Byron is a cap dump and probably will cost a 2nd to move, so Start with KK ore Caufield

ya that was brought up and I did not even think of Danault's ending contract, so I did an edit to make sure Danault agrees to a contract extension to make sure Detroit does not lose him and has him long term. Also in Byron's case. He looks like a salary dump because he is on 4th line on a deep MTL team. But in Detroit he is a 3rd line player that gets you 15 to 22 goals per season, not too far off from Mantha's goal production of the last 4 years.

money is money and if Danault was willing to accept what Bergevin offered him he would already be signed long term by now. So that tells me he wants more or he sees himself higher. So if Detroit or any other team is willing to give him the contract he wants, then move him.

that is why I added in my notes, Danault agrees to sign a contract extension with Detroit prior to the trade. This protects Detroit. Obviously to a contract Detroit is comfortable with.

Hell No Mantha is still under team control for 3 more seasons after this, Danault is a pending UFA that's 2 years older then Mantha and Byron is meh. Noway in hell Detroit moves Mantha for this. I'd maybe consider Poehling +Caufield+Montreals 2021 1st round pick for Mantha but that's about it.
