Just don't think that's sufficient for Nashville.

First in a uncertain draft year, an overpaid bottom 4 defenseman (for a team that already has a grit type defender in Boro), an alright bottom 6 forward in Lehkonen (for a team with a crap ton of defensive minded - and better - bottom six forwards (jarnkrok, sissons, grimaldi, kunin) and a 3rd isn't it for a top pair defenseman.

Sure he has one year left, and I guess this is crafted reflecting what Muzzin got, but I don't see this as the TYPE of package Nashville would be after.

1. Yes the deal was crafted around the Muzzin deal but I gave slightly more value and in year 1 I did say we might consider dropping the Nashville 3rd cause I couldn't decide if it should be there or not. I wasn't sure about adding Lehky to the package but decided to because he is young and cheap defensive forward who has the ability to put up 10-20 goals playing in the bottom 6. He also has the ability to play further up the lineup in a pinch. His value on the open marker would be a 2nd and 4th. Edmundson was added for two reasons 1. Like many other playoff bound teams we need to move cap out to take cap in. 2. Edmundson could be used as ED bait and would semi fill the hole left by Ekholm.

I think you are kidding yourself thinking Lehkonen can get a 2nd and 4th... especially in today's market. Also in saying Edmundson is bait, as most fans universally have agreed that he was paid too much. He might be playing OK so far, but that's not a bait type player.

If Nashville is trading Ekholm, they'd be after a higher end defensive prospect with a first long before a couple of pieces that are no longer needed in MTL.

Also, why are you talking about thinking you are giving TOO MUCH for Ekholm? My reply was that they weren't giving enough.

I think you misunderstood me I don't think it would be too much. I said the value was based on the Muzzin deal but with slightly more value.

Lehky is a very good defensive forqard capable of putting up decent points in the bottom 6 and would get a 2nd + mid round pick (4th seemed resonable) like I said above he can put up 10-20 goals playing a bottom 6 role. He also has enough skill to fill in the middle 6 for 5 to 10 games if need be.

Perhaps BAIT was the wrong word I more meant that he could be left exposed and if he was taken the Preds wouldn't be much worse for wear if not then he can still play in the bottom 4 solidly.

If you were looking more for picks and prospects then we could offer something like Kulak + Tuch + 1st as long as the Preds retain. Otherwise we can't fit Ekholm without adding Lehkonen for a 2nd (reduced value based on the Habs needing to free up space)

Your revised offer seems a bit more tolerable. Preds might also want a 2022 1st instead.

My issue with Lehkonen is that he is only seen as valuable by Habs fans. He is universally not wanted by other fans both on this website and off of it. Every team has a player that is not worth too much on the trade market, but is important to the team... In MTL, that's both Byron and Lehkonen.

As I said, the predators already have a boatload of Lehkonen type players so their bottom six is full. They would want youth + prospects for Ekholm. Tuch is a better return.

TBH I would rather keep Lehky anyway cause he is a huge part of our team. I reworked the deal on the year 1 thread to be Kulak + Tuch + 2021 1st + 2021 3rd (Chicago) for Ekholm half retained (in order for the deal to work there had to be retension that's why I added the additional pick)

I don't think Montreal would do the 22 puck as that draft is likely to be held in Montreal cause they didn't get to host the 2020 draft. If the host the draft without a 1st round pick fans would lose their minds lol.

That's not a very competitive offer from Montreal. You should make the offer a 1st, 3rd , Tuch, and Struble. No retention and no cap dumps.

These are not the right pieces for NSH — the picks are nice, but that’s about all they want out of the current deal (maybe Tuch) and that’s not enough (especially with retention)

Without either retention or a cap dump there is no way Montreal can fit Ekholm. Also Montreal is not adding more than what the Leafs gave up for Muzzin especially in this market.

So what is it Nashville wants? Keep in mind Suzuki, Caufield, Romanov, KK, Norlinder and Guhle won't be included. Also If you want one of Harris or Struble your going to have to take a 2nd instead of a 1st. They are just about off limits as well. Plus there has to be either retention or cap going back to Nashville.

Too much money for Danault, Tatar, Poehling, and Fleury.
Poehling and Fleury are two easy contracts at 2x$750k. (Poehling slots behind Evans, and Fleury will not have accomplished more coming out of ELC than Mete did).
Tatar shouldn’t make more than Toffoli. $4.25mm cap hit, max.
If Danault wants a 5 handle on his deal, it won’t be with the Habs. That ship sailed in September. His agents played a game of chicken and they lost (assuming he wants to stay, which he says he does).
For KK I imagine Bergevin will probably go with 2 years instead of 3 to keep the cap hit lower. Especially with the Suzuki extension due the following year.
