Quoting: wabit
That is debatable. I think a 1-for-1 deal isn't far off for value.
MN says no to the trade. Bjugstad isn't anything special, but he in a MN boy. Being from MN matters way too much to the Wild fans and owner. A trade around MarJo could be worked out.
Stalock needs to get off of IR before he'll have any trade value.
Minnesota fans don't care about where they are from, they want to win.... period. I'd move Bjugstad in a heartbeat and the only reason he is here is because Bill knows him from PItt's days, not because he was from MN. I get the nay-sayers around Bennett but if you watched him at all during the playoffs last year he was a beast. AND he was a beast in his previous playoff series so he brings it when it matters, but he needs to bring it all the time.
The reason for this trade is that we hear Mr. Russo state that young centers don't become available so the road is long. This franchise has historically had zero center's down the middle spare Mikko who was a 3C being played at a 1 or 2 and an aging Staal. So for cheap, you take a chance on Bennett who has been stuck on the 4th line behind a lot of depth in Cgy. He is younger, faster and hits more than Bjugstad. Give him top 6 minutes, let him win faceoffs and make space for K97, Parise and Fiala. Have him go to the net or scrap with the other team. In the end, he may become the 4th overall pick he was with a change of scenery or at worst it doesn't pan out and he become another Ryan Hartmann which is still valuable.
Is the 3rd too high? That's a fair argument … make it a 4th or a 5th, whatever it takes to get the deal done with CGY as they aren't going to just give him away. But the fact is, Bjugstad/MarJo/Bonino were brought in to be here this year and then traded for assets that the TDL. So they are expendable.
