If the Leafs don't advance, they certainly aren't going to be resigning so many of their UFAs. It will be time for a change and trading Nylander could be a possibility but more a bigger overall, especially in goal will be made.

Team doesn’t look bad but palmieri apparently has all the Canadian teams on his ntc so don’t see him coming to Toronto. Would rather the leafs trade Nylander for a big haul of prospects and picks and then try to sign Hamilton with the cap savings

if you want cap space to sign hamilton, you'd better move marner instead of nylander.

An alternative is to move away from Nylander and Holl, and use the cap space to sign Hamilton.

Maybe the problem is the expectation? Every team (even Tampa) has a ton of question marks. The teams who answer those ?’s on the ice are the teams who compete for the cup.

Maybe you have the wrong 3 superstars? I think my point is everyone seems to want to trade Nylander for Pesce (or another defenseman). Maybe the issue isn’t the defense anymore?

You're talking about a team that has three super star talent's (Matthews, Tavares, and Marner), and still haven't won a round since 2004

I only see three top 4 defensemen in the Leafs defense. I don't know what to make out of Holl as he's not good outside of Muzzin

Nylander isn't a massively over paid contract with paul hanging around. That's what it makes Nylander.
You keep building up Marner...90 point player guy is a 20 goal scorer. We are done there.

marner is overpaid by 1.5 m, not massively overpaid in the slightest, good try tho

My guess is leafs at best make second round. Only reason they go further is they don’t have a Boston or Tampa to deal with. Or a gritty team like the jackets that is a brutal matchup for them.

really? who'd you rather have, Jake or Pasta at 6, who are 40 goal scorers or Marner at 9, who's a 20 goal guy.
I'm pretty sure which I'd rather have.
He's massively over paid.

20 goals 60-70 assists playing all aspects of the game , pp pk on the ice up a goal on the ice down a goal

pastas contract is an outlier and compare marners pre contract year to gunetzels lmao not close,

better comprable is rantanen because they sgined at the same time when the cap was the same, so hes 1.5-2 overapaid

lol comparing players just on goals, classic, joe thronton and henrik sedin were such terrible hockey players

I really hate to break it to you, Marner's break out year was on the back of JT. Racking up assists when you are surrounded by guys who are capable of knocking in 40 goals isn't hard. There are 2 40 goal scorers on TOR right now. AM, JT, and a guy who looks more than capable of knocking in 30+ in WN.
So spare me the assists. No one in the whole league has more help in racking up assists than he does. Last year his 5v5 play was on pace for 9 goals and 32 assists. A total of 41 points. So you got 3 great goal scorers and in 5v5 you managed 32 assists and 9 goals for 41 point and you think you are worth 9 million. Because if so there are 3rd liners putting up better 5v5 numbers than that which out as much ice time and no PP time.
He's over paid.

marner was on pace for the same point total as he was his breakout year. its also not all bout points, very simple minded of you, like i mentioned, he plays every aspect of the game, he kills penalties, plays on the pp, solid on the defensive side of the puck, if youre gonna bring up linemates, then refer back to pasta who has been with marchand and bergeron since the start of his career, gunetzel who plays with that guy idk the best player of this generation. love how marner gets faulted for having good linemates but those guys dont lol, very biased.

another example, mark stone, 9.5m never hit 30 goals massively overpaid i guess

hes barely overpaid

I hate to break it to you but Jake and Pasta are netting goals not assists.
You go look at last years 5v5 production between Marner and McCann and you'll realize how much you are over paying.
He gets 2/3 of his points on the PP. And is surrounded by talent.
He's over paid.
