Was just trying to figure out what kind of package Ottawa would need to send to get PLD. I think you could get this done without moving Brannstrom.

yeah best case scenario something like this: White + Norris/Brannstrom + Thomson/Logan Brown + 2nd round pick

you cant tell me the package above is an underpay. That 2 of our best prospects (both A level) , a 1st and a middle 6 young player with upside

You’re acting like PLD is elite. He really isn’t, his first 3 years aren’t even better than Monahan’s. Looks like that’s what he’ll be, a more defensively conscious Monahan, and people are trying to get Monahan for a cap dump, a B prospect, and a 2nd. Absurd how some guys’ values get inflated on here, especially when they haven’t accomplished much.

I feel like that's too much to pay for Dubois.

Josh Norris just went point-per-game as a rookie in the AHL, I don't think a team that is low on center depth would trade an extremely promising prospect that will likely slot in as their middle-six center down the stretch. Colin White seriously struggled with injuries last year and is a much better player than he was. I think Ottawa is willing to give him another chance.

I think Brannstrom and the 2022 1st are definitely realistic pieces to the trade. I think Logan Brown, and I really want to say Vitaly Abramov but I'm not sure how realistic that would be sending him back to Columbus.

Okay cool then you guys shouldn’t bother trading for him.

Although, if you actually watch the guy play, you’ll probably why he’s a hot ticket.

What i was objecting to was the talk of nickel and diming columbus. Star player who’s just a kid, 4 more years of team control. They don’t want to move him. It will take an extremely generous offer to get columbus to even think about it.

Now, I’ll tell you why I think trade is not good for columbus. It looks like you’ve just stacked a bunch of nice things together that you don’t really hate to lose. Let’s go to the tape, all these pieces are certainly nice, don’t get me wrong:
Whitey: lets be real, that contract doesn’t look great. What is he? A trending up young player who looks like he might be a 60 point guy? Or is he a solid third line guy thats going to get you 35 points? Let’s be realistic about his value here. It would be a lot higher if he signs a short money bridge.
Brannstrom: we’re on the same page here right? Everyone is starting to be less and less bullish on Brannstrom. He might still be an awesome player, but he’s not the blue chip prospect he once was.
Norris: kind of the same story. He’s a nice prospect and he might be a really good player still. He doesn’t have that top prospect clout.
The 1st: Oh good, here’s the good piece. This could be really good. Oh wait, if it’s really could the blue jackets don’t get it, and it’s the following year when the odds of it being really good are worse.

Getting PLD is going to mean giving up something that really hurts, rather than a highly paid middle six forward you’re starting to worry isn’t going to be good, your second level prospects, and a protected first down the line.

You want Coyle, Frederic, Vaakanainen, and a protected first in 2022 for Tkachuk?

Norris was the rookie of the year in the AHL , i consider him to be like what Suzuki is to Montreal. Im still bullish on Brannstrom, maybe more of a #3 guy, i think he could be like a Faulk/Krug type of D with better defensive positioning. And the 1st is in a deep draft just protected in case they end up winning the lottery. White is likely to be a 45pt a year middle 6 guy.

Okay, so a guy that could maybe be a number 3 someday, a guy that’s kicked ass in the AHL, a 45 point guy who hasn’t proven he’s a 45 point guy but is already paid well, and a pick in 2022, unless it’s really good, and then let’s do it a year later....that’s just not moving the needle.

thats 2 of our top prospects. Id be willing to trade anyone not named Tkachuk/Chabot/Sanderson/Stutzle, just because its PLD. Otherwise, i wouldnt offer Norris. Brannstrom i dont want to trade but ill trade him if im getting a top player like Laine/PLD. I wouldnt trade Brannstrom for Debrusk for example.

Not underpay, massive overpay!

Columbus is in a position of weakness. Blue chip prospect + 1st + roster player is sufficient.

Brannstrom + Chlapik + 2021 1st (top 5 protected)
