I’m taking Julian Brisebois at his word “Tyler Johnson will be on the opening night roster and helping us defend the Cup.”

I honestly don't hate the Devils trade but I want to see what McLeod could do in the NHL with a good chance

First trade I don’t see Detroit doing, nor Tampa doing it right now after what their GM said.

Second one, I think both teams want to give their prospects one last chance to prove themselves. I’m still pulling for Svech, as I’m sure are Devils fans with McLeod.

Virtanen > Cholowski. I don’t think it’s a fair 1 for 1, and I don’t see where Detroit has an open wing spot for Virtanen to give him the minutes he needs. Cholo might see top 6 time though. Canucks likely decline, but I do like the trades overall

I only want Johnson because he gets us a 1st rounder or an A prospect. He looked pretty ordinary in the play offs and seems like he has lost some of his game. Vancouver trade id do. I'm not high on cholo.

To like Cholowski over Virtanen only an idiot believes in.
Wings cannot score & ppl say where would he fit? 😂

TJ at 4/5m is overrated by homers. Older & declining.

Virtanen needs top 6 minutes in Detroit to be successful, with Bertuzzi, Mantha, Zadina, Fabbri (after he’s tried as 2C), and soon Raymond there won’t be a spot for him. Putting him on the 3rd line with any two of Helm/Glendening/Filps/Frans isn’t going to do him any good. Our scoring issues won’t be changed by getting Virtanen either lol

Who even said Cholowski was better than Virtanen?

Wings are hurting at C. Too bad the Rangers lucked out dropping Detroit from getting Stuetzle.

It was sarcasm & better than laughing at the JV offer.

Not only is Detroit horrible at C their team D is horrible. Idk why loading up on wingers is happening. BPA is fine if the plan is develop & trade for a 2C down the road. Rasmussen & Veleno I don’t project as 2C.

The D is going to take a few years to develop, but there’s some interesting pieces there. Seider and Hronek are locks for the right side for the next 10+ years. Left side has McIsaac, Johnansson, Willander and whoever we draft this year (Power I hope). Nobody too solid, but one should be a top 4 guy hopefully.

Rasmussen was a Holland pick if I’m not mistaken. He’s a 3C at best. Veleno likely bait, or we let him play 3C and Ras on the wing. Didn’t look like a 2C in GR this past year. Maybe we draft a 2C rather than a defencemen this year.

Goaltending is a big question going forward.

The D is coming together nicely.
C is a real problem now & ahead.
In goal I hearya & can get filled once C is dealt with.
Hoarding picks is fine but sooner or later they are currency to fix needs.

Why does Detroit do that Johnson trade? If he only had 1-2 years left sure, worth it. But while I've always been a supporter of his, he has been declining steadily, signed for 4 more years at high, but not crazy money. A second isn't all that much, especially from a contender, and the upside (Johnson refinding his game) is just to low relative to the potential downside (being stuck with another 5 million contract for a depth player for FOUR years)

He’s far from a depth player in Detroit. He would hold nobody back & give wingers someone to play with & develop. He would be helpful for sure.

4/5m is a problem & a late 2nd isn’t enough.

appreciate the thought put into the devils trade. I honestly think it seems like a decent hockey deal. To be honest, I think McLeod probably has a bit more value than Svechnikov at this point as he is in fact a right handed C, about 1.5 years younger, and looks like he has a higher floor at this juncture. That said, I dont think it would take much more for this to be completely fair value...its not like we are talking about swapping a young heatley for hossa here.

McLeod looks like he will at least be a bottom 6 C for the next 4-8 years if I had to quantify it. I would say with a high degree of confidence that he will be a full time nhler in the near future. you would know better than I do of course, but would it be fair to say that svech would then have a greater risk of never being a full-time NHLer, or being out of a full-time spot within 4 years?

agreed. there were times last year when would get frustrated seeing him get sent back down to bingo just so Rooney and Hayden could play. If it were simply a matter of ability, then I must be quite far off the mark in accessing talent. Hes clearly not going to be a superstar, but there were a lot of instances last year where he could have played a decent role, and not neccessarily need to be sequestered to 4th line minutes. He seems like the kind of guy that you can throw out there for an extra 2 min worth of TOI if he is hot. If not, keep him limited to the standard 12-13 min. The fringe guys that they put out there last season certainly didnt show any semblance of that flexibility.
