Letang is still a top 20 D in this leauge, Johnson definitely isn’t even close. If I’m a homer, then I guess so is the Norris Trophy voting or NHL.com who all peg him as an elite D still. I think I trust the experts more than Coga16 from cap friendly. Even the advance statistics love him as well

Johnson may not be a complete cap dump, but in a flat cap world he’s overpaid. You’re right saying he’s a complete cap dump is harsh and wrong, but your comment about Letang is even worse than my comment about Johnson. Letang is on a great deal for an elite #1D.

https://pittsburghhockeynow.com/nhl-network-names-kris-letang-pittsburgh-penguins-top-10-defenseman/

You are just proving my point, you are just throwing subjective non quantifiable buzz statements deflecting the reality of what Letang is...at no point did I say Letang was bad nor was he better than EJ, but you instantly went barking down that path bc it bothers you that teams dont see an injury prone with a NMC 34 year old Dman this season at 7.25m isnt appealing.

Teams would rather have Letang at 5m, no one wants him at his full ticket price. And that is my point you are calling EJ a camp dump and you wouldnt want to pay him at 6m either. Which is a fair take, but no one wants Letang at his full contract either.

So by default if you want to call EJ a cap dump, then 30 other teams can argue that Letang is a cap dump too bc him at 7.25m with his issues..thats a contract Pens would like to get out of vs teams would like to take on. Reality is he is not on a great deal and he is no longer an elite 1D. Sorry but Father Time got him as well

and PS that pittsburghhockeynow.com guys and the hockeynow network are just click bait con artists, when Adrian Dater is the head of a network and has some of the worst writers over the past decade who were fired from their respective paper writing for them in their home cities....its an awful site.

I mean look how dead wrong they were about Matt Murray and trying to use one another to get clicks to their failing paywall site

Did you even read the links I posted??? Or are you that dense. Letang’s on ice performance is worth more than 7.25 million. Pens are not going to move Letang because he’s far more valuable to the team than the return they would get, but you’re out of your mind if you seriously don’t think if Letang hit the market; there wouldn’t be serious interest around the league. Letang isn’t a $5 million player, he’s an $8+ million player. Jfresh model pegs him worth at around $11 million and while I disagree with that, he’s definitely worth his full contract and there is clearly a lot of love for Letang still in the hockey community. Letang and EJ are not comparable.

you have the gull to call me dense and you completely have overlooked everything I said and went full fan boy on me bc you are upset that someone doesnt want an injury prone 34 year old at 7.25m with a NMC in a flat cap era

You can have your 11m extended 35 year old player then, have fun with that...not at all a cap dump contract...not one bit

also Hockey Network list hahhaha I mean if thats what you think that is some sort of feather in his cap, those lists are a mockery every year.

Did I say only hockey lists? No. I also included Norris rankings AND analytics. Basically every single credible source of gathering intel on a player; but once again clearly you know more. I’m disappointed because normally your takes are pretty good but you’re way off on this one. Do better next time

Malkin would easily be MTL's top line center. The guy was on pace for 109 points in 82 games last season.

I know what I saw in the playoffs and he's also 34 Years old, Montreal would easily reject this trade.

Wow basing your opinions off 5 games where the whole team didn’t show up after a massive covid pause. Habs take this laughing to the bank and finally give price an actual shot at winning the cup for the first time in his career

Right the Habs would reject trading 2 decent prospects & a late 1st for a top 40 player of all time? Typical homers.

You’ve got to be kidding me.. he would be By far YOUR BEST PLAYER! Pens are getting fleeced here.

Norlander is solid
Poehling is a 3C at best
And the picks would likely be late if habs added malkin.

No chance pens would EVER do this

Malkin was not the best player on the ice during the last qualifying round that for sure...

LMAO what? Geno’s career average is 95 points per 82 games, last season he was on pace for 109. How is he not worth his contract?

And Martin St-Louis was still very productive when he was traded to NYR for Dubinsky and two 1st...stil, it was a bad trade.

Neither was the entire team and he was dynamite during the regular season. He’d still be by far your best player no questions asked. Dude hasn’t averaged under a PPG in his career since one injured season in 2010/11. If habs wanted to give price a legit shot at a cup they’d be all over malkin if he was available. Too bad for you he isn’t going anywhere

I'm basing it off of what has he done for me lately. He's also 34 and only has a few years left.

For an aging veteran, It's great that he's one of the top 100 players of all time, but he's not in his prime anymore. You don't trade futures for someone like that unless you think you can win the cup this year and don't care about future years.

And had 1 point in 4 games in the play ins. I don't care about regular season success when you do that in the playoffs. I wouldn't expect a Leafs fan to know anything about Playoff Performance though.

I’m a leafs fan? Buddy I’m a die hard pens fan and I’ve probably seen a whole lot more success in my life than you. Look at Genos career playoff numbers and you will easily be able to tell that this years play ins was a fluke, the whole team didn’t show up. If you don’t think Geno is a playoff performer that is absolutely embarrassing

Malkin is also 34.. why can't you understand that? He's past his prime and is just going to get worse every year. Maybe he can hold it up for 2-3 more years, but that's not worth it. Sorry you don't understand.

Once again you say “passed his prime” yet continue to ignore the fact that he had an excellent season this year. Your argument makes no sense. No point in talking to a brick wall

I'm not denying he had a good season, he just didn't perform when it counted and he's 34. Montreal isn't going to trade prime future assets for a 34 YO player. Sorry, he doesn't have that much value, not to Montreal anyways.
