Description

This is a trade deadline deal. Dubas likes to acquire players with term and rakell matches the criteria. Many people have been complaining about the leafs bottom 6 and I think this trade not only improved the top 6 but the movement of mikheyev down to the third line improves their depth.

I know they are over the cap. I am not sure how deadline cap space works but I think they might be able to fit this in. When it comes to value, let me know what you guys think, who needs to add.

Given the extra year on Rakell's contract, I can't imagine Anaheim would be thrilled retaining for a meager return like that. I think it more likely rather than the retention, you'd give them Holl as well. It would be to make the cap work for the Leafs and Anaheim isn't exactly overflowing with NHL RHD right now so it could work for them as well. I don't think Anaheim fans will feel this a good return for Rakell but it would at least make it work better than the retention.

I think you have to pay more for Rakell, and Anaheim is not retain any Salary only for more Picks or young players. The Maple Leafs first will also not be a high pick i guess (same thought on the pick going to Car for the Marleau trade)

In general I like this trade to add more skill for the offense but we have a lot good forwards like Spezza who also want some ice time. This trade only make sense if someone gets a season-ending injury

I think, on top of what the previous two replies said, Hallander (I'm not saying that he's not a good prospect) isn't really someone that the Ducks need at this point. Their prospect depth down the middle is extremely heavy at this point.

Ya I just put him there for a baseline. Honestly I wouldn’t mind giving up anyone except for sandin, Robertson and probably amirov (too early). You can have your pick at the rest of the system.

Ya I get that. Spezza would be sitting in this scenario, it could also be barabanov. The only thing I would say is that a injury or 2 is probably likely, and even if it’s not season ending it kind of just makes everyone compete for a spot which I don’t mind.

I don’t think the leafs can afford rakell without retention in the second year. Maybe they can up the return to like 1st, lily, second. That’s more than they payed for muzzin who also had a year left, but Anaheim is retaining.
