Vegas could just retain 3 million on fleury and trade him for all that by this guys logic rather than paying Detroit to take him LOL

Completely contradicts himself. So fleury to dump costs: hauge a first and a 5th, but after retaining 3 million his value is now... Smith, Mike
Larsson, Adam
Räsänen, Aapeli [Reserve List]
2022 1st round pick (EDM)

VAN would rather keep Beagle. Also Jim Benning stated that he would not be moving another 1st round pick.

The intent behind my idea was to get Vancouver $3million of cap spacee in 2021 off-season when they'll have 3 big RFAs to resign in a likely flat cap year. As for the pick swap, it could very likely be moving back from 20th to 33rd if Vancouver improves some. So more like a high 2nd round value, not an outright 1st.

Vegas would be getting a 1b goalie back in Bernier, as well as cap relief this year in the amount of $3mill and next year in the amount of $7mill. Just thought that they could use it, but I could be wrong.

LOL you are not getting a 1st rounder from the Canucks no matter how you dress it up. That's a joke. The Canucks have already punted on this year so they don't have to deal a 1st to dump salary. Makes no sense how you do a 180 degree turn all of sudden

That is correct. But depending on what the 3 cost, they look like they my need space to fill out the roster behind them.

Bernier could be had for peanuts. Fleury’s value doesn’t change that dramatically just based off of $3 million retention.

I think Bernier could snag a late 2nd high 3rd. Its not that hes amazing, but hes cheap and good. I do agree that the trade above doesnt make a ton of sense. However, i think you are wrong that Vegas could retain 3m by themselves, the whole point is how up against the wall they are, and need to clear space without retaining, specifically because they paid 2 goalies too much as a tandem. I believe if offered Bernier for Fleury straight up, they likely would, but why would Deroit? they need assets to take on such a high price tag. In essence I think the trade here is heavy on the assets but the train of thought is very fair. Detroit takes on retaining salary and flips him for assets.

The goalie market sucks though. Look at Murray only getting a 2nd and Lenher only getting a 2nd and subban. And yes I know, those goalies signed to way bigger contracts then Bernier, but they also have way higher pedigree. The goalie market sucks right now.

And as for bernier for fleury straight up yes of course VGK would do it, but Detroit obviously doesn’t as you said. The issue I have, is the cost to move fleury won’t be that much, and the return to trade fleury to another team with retention won’t be that high either. The concept makes sense, but the execution needs work

alright working from there, knowing that Vegas has to give up something to move him, what is the cost? 1st and a prospect? I cant see any way they get a taker without including a first round or a higher end prospect, maybe not both, but one or the other?

Larsson looks like he'll be your 3rd pairing RD. At $4.16mill I felt like they could better allocate the money elsewhere and find a cheaper replacement on thw FA market.

That was my train of thought. I felt like MAF would cost a 1st minimum to move due to his salary and 2 year term in a flat cap period. And then by getting Bernier back, I felt like that could get them a prospect like Hague, due to his reasonably low cost combined with the year he had last year and the fact that his contract is expiring after this year.

With Vegas going for it this year, I can't see them trading MAF without wanting to get a good goalie back to pair with Lehner.

I think the goalie market did suck for Pitt when they were trying to trade Murray due to how many good goalies were free agents at the time and wouldnt cost the new team a pick to acquire.

The goalie market has dried up now though and a couple teams look like they could still use upgrades, which is where Edmonton came into my thought process.

Now admittedly, my idea was originally to have MAF play for Detroit for awhile to try to reestablish his value with a hot start and then trade him. But then I realized that a potential 2 week quarantine for him going to a Canadian team mid season would make it a no go, so I made it a 3 team trade. Obviously I should have adjusted the team getting MAF or the return from Edmonton accordingly and I failed to do so, which was my bad.
