I agree that they both look great and have tons of potential....but you never know how that potential transfer to the NHL....I guess what I am trying to say is that I view this deal as risk v. reward for both teams.

I put Larkin at $9.1 over 8 with the extention in my description....I'm hoping it would be mid $8s or lower if it is an 8 year deal, but time will tell.

I agree with you that Calgary isnt currently blowing up, which is why I said in my description of the trade that it was a hypothetical scenario if Tkachuk won't resign long term. If he does resign long term then obviously this would never happen. If he only signs a 1 yr deal you risk losing him for nothing next offseason, or praying for value at the tdl on a half season rental.

I agree....but Chicago proved a lack of market/value on a 24yr old top winger that is going to command a big extension (definitely not trying to say that Tkachuk isn't more valuable then DeBrincat because he is imho and hence the bigger offer).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>buffbry</b></div><div>Don't want or need Ryan reeves. Rather take a 3rd for leddy with no contract coming back.
Gagner probably isnt going anywhere he's the glue guy on the team that all his teammates like, plays PK and leadership roles for the wings. I wouldn't be shocked if they resigned him again.
Dadanov is expensive and not needed and I get he's a cap dump for brisson, but also paying a 2nd ontop of taking a bad contract. These moves honestly just don't move the needle or make sense for the wings. brisson is same as Holloway, most likely a 3rd liner, they have plenty of that already for prospects.
If we are gonna make moves it won't look like these.</div></div>
So in essence, you'd rather have a 3rd round pick and a 4th round pick over Brisson moving forward?
I get the fact that Gagner is a good locker room guy which is great to have around, but the Wings have shown recently that they shouldn't be playing for this year anymore, they should be looking forward. And if they keep Gagner or trade him, they would still have the same opportunity to sign him again in the offseason.

Heck Albert Johansson put up better numbers in the SHL then Phillip Broberg. I wouldn't deal anyone of Edvinsson, Johansson or Wallinder for Broberg. And Jonatan Berggren i'd take over Holloway any day of the year.</div></div>
I didn't suggest trading any of Edvinsson, Johansson, Wallinder or Berggren. If Detroit could add more highly thought of prospects to the pool, why not....more shots at a potential top player....and if we end up with too many good young LHDs or forwards then that seems like a good problem to have.

I read an article listing the Rangers as a fit for Leddy as a veteran LHD for them for the playoffs, but I'm not a Rangers fan so I'll take your word for it.
What if Nemeth was switched for Reaves in this scenario? Would that work, or is it just a straight no on any Leddy trade?

Who adds and how much
Edmonton adds Zadina and Namestnikov in an effort to boost depth scoring and not waste another year of prime McDavid and Draisaitl (Holland also trying to save his own job). Zadina is a cost controlled buy-low add. Holland drafted Zadina due to his high level scoring potential and by putting him on a line with McDavid or Draisaitl it give Zadina his best chance to reach that potential. Edmonton also gets out from under Smith's 2023 contract and adds some depth on the blueline.
Detroit takes on 3 cap dumps as an extra cost to add a potential 2C/3C in Holloway and a top4 LD in Broberg.
With that said, who would have to add and how much to make this work for both sides?

Assuming that Washington wants to try to add at the deadline to try to make a playoff run, they need to add cap space first....Detroit can accommodate.

LHD options - what are they worth
What about:
Nicolas Hague from Vegas (he might be too expensive for Vegas to re-sign in the offseason)
Gustav Forsling from Florida (if Florida gets a top line LHD like Chychrun from AZ then he may be expendable)
Ryan Graves from Jersey (wish we would have traded for him instead of Leddy last year as they went for similar costs)

Receiving dumps
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mhockey91</b></div><div>The goalie market sucks though. Look at Murray only getting a 2nd and Lenher only getting a 2nd and subban. And yes I know, those goalies signed to way bigger contracts then Bernier, but they also have way higher pedigree. The goalie market sucks right now.
And as for bernier for fleury straight up yes of course VGK would do it, but Detroit obviously doesn’t as you said. The issue I have, is the cost to move fleury won’t be that much, and the return to trade fleury to another team with retention won’t be that high either. The concept makes sense, but the execution needs work</div></div>
I think the goalie market did suck for Pitt when they were trying to trade Murray due to how many good goalies were free agents at the time and wouldnt cost the new team a pick to acquire.
The goalie market has dried up now though and a couple teams look like they could still use upgrades, which is where Edmonton came into my thought process.
Now admittedly, my idea was originally to have MAF play for Detroit for awhile to try to reestablish his value with a hot start and then trade him. But then I realized that a potential 2 week quarantine for him going to a Canadian team mid season would make it a no go, so I made it a 3 team trade. Obviously I should have adjusted the team getting MAF or the return from Edmonton accordingly and I failed to do so, which was my bad.

Receiving dumps
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>digitalbath</b></div><div>alright working from there, knowing that Vegas has to give up something to move him, what is the cost? 1st and a prospect? I cant see any way they get a taker without including a first round or a higher end prospect, maybe not both, but one or the other?</div></div>
That was my train of thought. I felt like MAF would cost a 1st minimum to move due to his salary and 2 year term in a flat cap period. And then by getting Bernier back, I felt like that could get them a prospect like Hague, due to his reasonably low cost combined with the year he had last year and the fact that his contract is expiring after this year.
With Vegas going for it this year, I can't see them trading MAF without wanting to get a good goalie back to pair with Lehner.

Larsson looks like he'll be your 3rd pairing RD. At $4.16mill I felt like they could better allocate the money elsewhere and find a cheaper replacement on thw FA market.
