Pretty easy decline from the Rangers. Buchnevich and Nylander are pretty comparable. In fact, both the xSPAR and SPAR models show Buch outplaying Nylander over the last 2 seasons.





So yeah I think there's a deal that could be done with a Buch for Nylander frame work. Buch is less than half the cap hit, has more size and is a left handed shot. Nylander has more team control, a bit more speed and is a right shot.

With that as a framework, there's a window for small adds. Lundkvist's presence here is kinda an embarrassment. You should think it's a good deal, it's grand larceny and not really something Gorton would consider.

Appreciate the comment. Again not my idea but I get where you’re coming from. I actually see it more as the trade revolving around lundqvist nylander as opposed to buchnevich-nylander. I think as good as lundqvist is I’d personally still value WM higher, buchnevich makes up the difference, and maybe the picks are overkill. WM for 4 years versus Buch for 1 year makes the gap between them massive IMO. But I do get where you’re coming from

I mean Nylander and Buch are pretty close in value. It'd be like me proposing Buch for Nylander + Sandin + a couple picks and saying "well the trade is really Buch for Sandin + picks and though I value Buch slightly more, Nylander makes up for the difference.. If that sounds ridiculous, now you kinda understand how absurd this trade looks to anyone aware of the analytics.

Great trade for both teams. Toronto defiantly needs that cap space. And they get Lundqvist and a 2nd and a 3rd even if they don’t resign Buch. And atleast they can attempt to resign Hyman or Buch now next year.

And NYR get a running mate for Alexis.

I wouldn’t sign Granlund for 4M though. I’d give Hyman an extension right away. 1.75M of that, move him up to 4M per. And sign another forward like Duclair or Anthasious or Kovalchuk for 2M for 1 year and then try to resign Buch next year.

The Granlund signing is just for one year, so it wouldn't effect the ability to resign Hyman or Buch next year, just gives them some more firepower up front this year

4M is too much. Give Hyman the extension now and sign Duclair, Athanasious, or Kovalchuk for 2M. All are better options IMO. Bigger upside.

I don't mind the trade as a Leaf fan, but geez the Rangers can't take on an additional 3.5m in cap without taking a big bonus carryover into next season.
