I've done an extensive search of LH dmen capable of playing to our needs and in all honesty the only one that makes sense and doesn't involve us giving away our prized possessions like Sergachev for example, is Jack Johnson of Columbus.
CLB already has the depth on D.
Werenski and Murray are both proving to be top 4 LH shots.
CLB wants to trade this guy as they would most likely lose him in the expansion draft if not. Better to get something for him now.
They could use the extra cap space for next year.
MTL has the cap space to add.
MTL has the picks and prospects.
MTL needs a top 4 Dman capable of playing big minutes. Johnson averaged 22+ in his career.
Johnson is relatively cheap and only signed for this year and next and doesn't have a NTC so we could trade him if necessary after the playoffs.
If I'm Bergevin, this is the smartest bet. I know some people are going to be saying he sucks and we can do better. The answer is no, we can't. Edler has a NTC and doesn't want to waive not too mention Nucks fans expect huge returns for a decent but that great dman. Marc Staal? I'd rather die. Mark Streit? Just as bad as Markov, so no upgrade there. Beauchemin has a NMC. Brodin, Maatta, Scandella, Fowler all will cost more then we should be willing to pay for what they will bring us.
I've done an extensive search to find someone who fits the needs of both teams and makes sense. Jack Johnson is the best choice for this year and next. After that, we need Sergachev to be the head honcho on the left side. Unless Beaulieu miraculously figures out out to be a top pairing dman. (Doubt it)
