Well you would lose 1 play correct in expansion? So you could save money there (unless you accounted for that already) - I’d honestly try to get Makar long term if he would buy in (I can see players doing that in Colorado, easily see that team and players buying in)

To your point They will lose 3m minimum since either Graves Compher or Donskoi will be picked in the expansion draft.
And I agree Makar will get long term contract...and it wouldnt shock me that guys all buy it like you said, Mackinnon already said he doesnt care about his AAV on his next contract when asked about it, he wants to win and willing to take less so guys get more to build a team. Wouldnt shock me to see Landeskog do the same thing on his next deal to start teh trend

Sakic usually doesnt really go for long terms like 6-7-8 years

Thought so - and yeah id bet 5 years that would be good/ prediction. But if he doesn’t put up an unreal year (doesn’t mean he’s having a down year just means he’s not throwing up like 87 in 82g points) I could see potential in a 7m x 8y - would make him get more money than most of the whole team

He just did that with Girard and Rantanen, and did it with Mackinnon so that's not true, core guys they go long term with

I see Sakic giving Landy 5 years at 7AAV. He saw how the EJ contract is hurting now. And the way Landy plays I dont see a 7 or 8 year deal being good business.

I see Makar going 7 years like Girard got but for around 7- 8 million.

Gubauer needs to prove he can stay healthy all year long. If not we will move on and trade for a goalie.

If Saad comes in and solidifies the top 6 on the 2nd line I could see them giving him a deal like Bura for 4 years that takes him to age 30.

Avs have 26 million in cap and really like 29 since they will lose Graves,Donskoi or JTC in the expansion draft.

You do it for young, special players. That describes Makar.

Agree mostly on Landy - they may have to buy another year to keep his AAV low but we'll see what he's willing to accept.

No way Makar takes less that what Chabot is making if he signs a long-term deal. I could see a bridge at $7M for a few years but if he goes 7 or 8 years, it's going to be more along the lines of $8-9M

The G situation is definitely one to watch.

Saad turned 28 today. If they sign him for 4 years next year, that gets him through age 32. Not sure it makes that much of a difference but it's a consideration.

Chabot seems to have already set the baseline for top young D: 8x$8M. Of course, that's on a team that can afford big contracts atm and it was signed pre-flat cap but I can't see Hughes or Makar taking less than that.

Walk him right up to UFA? I highly doubt that.
