Possibitities. Sure, it's possible. If he only scores 19 points next year maybe. I expect him to get at 3 million more than this. No offence. It's fine to post stuff like this.

If toews we’re only going to get 4 mil don’t think the isles would’ve traded him (or would’ve given a different reason for trading him) think you’re likely looking at more there

then this doesn't make sense at all. are you saying that the leafs can offer sheet Makar for 4M, only have to give up a 2nd and the Avs just won't accept? because it is a possiblity

I actually expect Toews to come in between $3.25-3.75M - the contract Gryz signed with Boston is a good comparable. Toews might be worth more than that in almost any other year but the market is a bit depressed and he does have only 2 years of NHL service.

They had Barzal, Pulock and Toews to sign. Barzal could cost anywhere from $6-9M and Pulock could come in around $6M or so. They have $8.9M in space. Not sure where they are (were) going to find another $4M for Toews unless they find landing spots for both Boychuk and Leddy but, clearly, not many teams have either the space or the desire to take on bad contracts like that. Plus, they have Beauvillier to re-sign next offseason. The Toews trade was as much about this season as it was about looking into the future. Tough to overcome bad contracts.

That one is realistic I would say. 4.5 is probably my guess.

I'd love that. Then maybe we can trade Bracco for McDavid..... oh wait, never mind. We can trade Thronton for Mcdavid. There's no way the oilers would possibly decline that one.

Oh, ok. That makes sense. I don't know that much about Toews, in a normal year it seems like 4-5 would be what he'd get, but its probably about 1 mil less this season.

I don’t disagree with either but I would have thought isles would rather move leddy for a 7th or something and keep toews if they thought he would be a mil and a half cheaper (considering he’s better than leddy) and if it goes to arbitration I think he would get more but we’ll see.. I get both sides to the argument so I won’t be real surprised either way

I'm sure Lou tried (and continues to try) to move Leddy for nothing but nobody wants to take him. Sort of like how nobody would take Tyler Johnson and his 4x$5M. Without a raise in the cap and some gamesmanship from GM's not helping each other out, I think there was at least a little bit of a fear of offer sheets (as there should be). I think the Isles just had to make Pulock and Barzal a priority which is understandable. I expect Toews to get signed before arbitration but we'll see how it shakes out.
