Last thing the Rangers need to be is capped strapped like Tampa and Toronto and several other teams, It's reckless to throw that kind of money at players in a flat cap world not knowing when things might improve.

Why does NJ accept? Does M NTC Smith go to NJ? How many of those bonuses up to 10m be carried over to next season? Really not cap compliant with those factors are considered.

They can't, And the Rangers should be the last team throwing big money at Matt Barzal. New York has to pay out nearly $4 million in bonuses this season and Fox, Kakko and Lafreniere will be needing big deals down the road so it would be foolish on Gorton's part.

The NJ deal (or if its meant to represent any team with room) is crazy unrealistic.
