Considering FLA asked for Johnson and Dermott and were turned down by Leafs i seriously doubt Leafs would be willing to pay even more.

The Leafs turned down the proposed offer of Dermott and Johnsson. The Leafs didn't go to the Panthers. The Panthers came to the Leafs for the ask. I won't be surprised if Dubas offer sheets him for a 3x3 contract and only end up giving up a 2nd instead of assets

Cats could easily match that, question is if they want to. Cats didn’t want Johnsson or Kerfoot it’s Dermott or Sandin and we’re willing to take a dump to get them. The problem is the most if not all Leaf fans deem Dermott/Sandin untouchable. That’s what makes the Leafs a bad fit for a Weegar trade.

If they were fine giving him that contract, then the deal would have been completed Also, I believe you got something mixed up. The Panthers ASKED for Dermott and Johnsson, and Dubas rejected. Not the other way around

Didn’t mix it up. The Cats were willing to take Johnsson to get Dermott but really didn’t want Johnsson. Leafs don’t want to give up Dermott at that’s the consensus

Willing to take a player and help with the Leafs cap to get a player they really want, have to give to get. If Dermott pans out it would be worth it for the Cats. They would also have flipped Johnsson after the fact.

Weegar is too valuable, and we don't have many good defensive defensemen anyway. There is no way we don't match an offer sheet unless it is a ridiculous number.
