Marner Trade Idea from Our Side

Description
Entirely fanciful but a great idea to dream about.

I added the 2022 second to the original offer (made by a newly-joined Toronto fan).

Note that due to the terms of the contracts of Marner, Getzlaf, Backes, Fowler and Lindholm, the actual payroll is $21 million less than the cap hit total.

My colleague Lenny7 points out that the right side of the defense is dubious, but Rome wasn't built in a day.

For future reference, Maxime Comtois is exempt from the expansion draft, but Isac Lundestrom isn't.

Feel free to suggest RD improvements. Mindful that Getzlaf's and Backes' contracts come off the books this summer and only Heinen, Steel and Jones need to be re-signed, maybe that waits until next year.

Leafs have absolutely no incentive to make this kinda deal. Marner is staying, he's a over ppg player that hasn't even reached his prime on a contending team. You've offered 2 slightly above average players that really don't fit in Toronto. Rakell would take Marner's spot and is a massive downgrade from Marner. So it's basically giving up Marner for a glorified d-man who's had 1 good season in his career and the rest are average. Just because he shoots right, doesn't mean Toronto wants him. Dubas has made that more than clear. For his price tag and fact that he'd walk in a couple seasons, that's an easy no.

Anaheim doesn't have the assets to pry Marner outta Toronto. It would take quite the overpayment and would start with Lindholm and a 1st. Anaheim probably adds a pretty good prospect in the deal too.

I get your speaking hypothetically here, but keep dreaming bud.

The last thing the Ducks need is trading one of the highest ranking defensive prospects, a first round pick, and whatever other prospect you greedy fans want for someone who only makes plays and not pulls 30+ goals like the Ducks actually need. Not to mention a horrid 11 mil contract which we’d have to move more of our players because we wouldn’t have any space for him.

So I’ll say again.

NO

The only way you are getting Marner is if you give Drysdale. So if you don't want to give up Drysdale, that's perfectly fine. We will just keep Marner. We can agree to disagree. Besides, Why would a player who has never played a single game in the nhl, fetch a 94 point player at 23 years old? If you think about it, it doesn't seem fair, does it. Of course there is an enormous amount of upside in Drysdale, and thus I think his value is very close to Marner's, I suggested the difference was 2 seconds. But I would agree the ducks are better off keeping Drysdale, and the Leafs Marner. There is no reason to sell low.

Thank you. I don't get why people want to trade Marner for any old dman just because he shoots right either.
