The Kings are rebuilding because they gave too many contracts to players well into their 30s, don't you think this is counterproductive to their rebuild?

JVR with his 41 pts in 59 games from the 3rd line and at just 5.25mil is probably a steady producing vet to go along with their youth movement on the top 2 lines. Whereas a lot of their vets are losing their touch (jeff Carter for one), JVR at 30 yrs old would probably lead the team in goals and provide a good veteran for the youngsters.

The return of a depth defenseman, a late 3rd and 4th for a reliable 25-30 goal scorer at that retention isn't too much. Is it a big salary to take on, yes, but JVR is a sound producing veteran for the rookies, who's contract will end when their entry level deals end.

I like what you did to get a Dman and I like frost with the big boys. I think thats a good dynamic, however, I think for the kings to take the deal and contract even with retention they would want some prospect back in return. The Ghost trade looks decent though well done.

Thanks, easily done to add a mid level prospect based on what the flyers management think of wade Allison or Isaac ratcliffe or matthew strome (all 3 are big power forward types, and would make the next Clifford or toffoli for LA).

The point remains you are adding another $5M+ player to the Kings whose best years are behind him, had injury issues, and would play with the Kings until his mid 30s. This is especially bad considering the Kings could get a similar younger 20 goal scorer for less from free agency.

The Kings biggest strength for this season (and next) is cap space in a very cap crunched league. What the Kings will use their cap space for is to take on aging players/bad contracts for high draft picks and young prospects, many teams sprinkle in veteran free agents to help develop their core but Kopitar, Brown, and Carter fulfill the role of veteran forward leadership, have all had bounce back seasons in points, and each provide a tremendous amount of playoff experience. The Kings also have a logjam of prospects for the bottom six, and those kids will need to play and duke it out for their role. The Kings are completely fine with their lineup, it's why they have only signed AHL depth signings during the free agency. The Kings are open for business to bury cap for the next two years before the first of our notable RFAs have contracts to get paid out. I think you can find a team to take JVR, the Kings aren't it. Besides spending the last of his productive years with a rebuilding team is doing JVR wrong.

I don't like JVR. Never liked JVR. I said that his contract was bad the day he signed it. It's even worse now.

The fact that he was Toronto's leading goal scorer and was playing 3rd line minutes in his contract year was telling. He averaged less than 15 mins per game in 2019-20 and was 9th (!) among Flyers forwards in the playoffs in average TOI.

No one seems happy to have him anywhere he plays. I'd consider taking him as a cap dump, but Philly would have to pay to move him. I wouldn't give up anything in return.
