Description

David Savard is the missing link to making this a really good D-core walking into the 20-21 season!!!

Columbus gets a serviceable replacement for Savard who can easily play top 6 (top 4 with the right partner) in Holl and what looks to be a versatile top 9/top 6 wigner in Mikheyev. He can play the pp and pk. Will definitely upgrade their forward group. Columbus gets a 4th and we take on the financial burden of dubinsky for them to retain half of Savard's salary (only 1 year remaining).

Dermott signs comparable deal to Victor Mette. Their numbers are very similar. Add an extra 100k if really necessary.

If Barabanov or Lethonen don't work out as KHL signings then we have lots of backup options (Sandin, Liljigren, Joey Anderson, Korshkov)

Upgrade to pick a bit maybe and CBJ might bite. If they do, the leafs D core becomes nothing to laugh at at all (even at the moment, it's not very bad).

Jackets sold off Nutivaara and Murray to clear space.
The only way you even had a chance to get Savard was if CBJ landed Pietrangelo and then needed to unload his salary.

Yeah I realize it's much less likely now that they didn't sign Pietrangelo but one can dream. (was hoping CBJ would sign him). But who knows, they were will to move Savard potentially earlier and like I said Holl is a downgrade but still valuable and Mikheyev is really solid and could potentially be a huge steal if performs as constantly as he did for the leafs last season before his injury
