Yeah I'd rather trade Mikheyev and Holl to Columbus. See if we can upgrade Holl for a D-man like Savard maybe! Mikheyev is good but replaceable especially for this team

The only way you even had a chance to get Savard was if CBJ landed Pietrangelo and then needed to unload his salary.</div></div>
Yeah I realize it's much less likely now that they didn't sign Pietrangelo but one can dream. (was hoping CBJ would sign him). But who knows, they were will to move Savard potentially earlier and like I said Holl is a downgrade but still valuable and Mikheyev is really solid and could potentially be a huge steal if performs as constantly as he did for the leafs last season before his injury

Yes while it doesn't solve their C problem it certainly provides good value for Savard. It's not like they only trade with the leafs this year. They can flip other assets for a C and then fill in those spots with Dermott and Mikheyev who are both really good young players. Only reason I move them from Toronto is because we have so many young guys and could use some more developed vets in the mix

My Ideal 2021 Roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>newballcoach</b></div><div>I can see the Leafs going after Savard, but not sure this is going to move the needle for Columbus (doesn't really fit their needs). I would think they're more interested in Kerfoot.
I don't see why you trade Engvall to pay Maroon. Engvall is probably more valuable to this team, Maroon is old, slow and very over-rated. Your 21 man roster also isn't going to work once the Leafs have 2 short-term injuries where they can't just move guys up and down as you have suggested. Especially since many of these players are waiver eligible.
They have also said Evan Rodrigues is going UFA and I doubt they keep Bracco (certainly not on the big roster).</div></div>
Maroon adds some needed leadership, winning pedigree and grit that this team needs. I like Engval but just seems like he's the odd guy out for me (and with that little pay raise can't be an extra fwd).
I actually disagree about the 21 man roster. Most the guys that would switch around are all waiver exempt. Lethonen, barabanov, robertson, Korshkov, Sandin, liljigren. And guys who aren't like bracco, Gauthier, Malgin I'm not too worried if we lose them via waiver claim. Even a guy like Rodrigues wouldn't be horrible if sent down and claimed.
Rodrigues is not getting a QO but that doesn't mean they don't sign him cheaper than his 2m QO and bracco is a stretch but like I said is a depth option to switch out with spezza. Shelterd minutes, 2nd unit pp.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Copenhagen</b></div><div>Exactly, thats why this trade makes zero sense, Cap wise it would be Ranta/Hill for 5 million or Andersen/Ranta for 10 million. Not sure what the guy is smoking and how it saves cap space or money.</div></div>
You clearly don't understand the ACTUAL SALARY implications of the contracts. I tried to explain but you still don't get it. Yes Cap hit is higher but that doesn't matter for Arz. They care about the actual $$ they will have to pay their players. If you look at Freddy's salary structure he gets paid $4mil singing bonus on the first day of free agency (which the leafs would pay) and then the trade would go down and Arz would only have to pay the remaining $1mil base salary.
Freddy has proven that he is a great goalie, top 20 at minimum. He had a subpar year but to say he is worse than Hill is ridiculous. Freddy has absolutely carried the leafs for years. Only reason leafs do this is for the extra year and to shake up things a little after a disappointing finish to the season. No way any GM would be doing Freddy for Hill.

Raanta/Hill is WAY worse than Andersen/Rantaa and it costs virtually the same (in real salary). Say what you will but it is not ridiculous to think Arizona will try to reduce their real expenses while not completely destroying their teams competitiveness.

Cap problems is the exact reason for the trade. If you read the description I mentioned real $$ Freddy only makes $1m next yr where as kuemper will get close to $10m over the next 2 years. Arizona can't afford that and at least gets a really good goalie for 1 year at an awesome price. Not the greatest hockey trade but a good business trade for a struggling team financially.

Winnipeg Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Why would Anaheim increase its cap hit by $4.175M just for a fourth-round draft pick?</div></div>
They are a budget team. Marleau's salary is less than Eaves even though his cap hit is higher. Both teams are benefiting from the trade however the pick is still going to Anaheim since they are also getting Toronto out of a sticky situation. Anaheim and Toronto have a good trade history between each other.

Let me guess is Point and Rantanen both easily getting over 11 as well or is this narrative just because it's a Toronto player and your choosing to hate on us. Marner camp asking for 11 but that's how negotiations work. Start high. He won't play for Toronto if that's what he's looking for and sticks to it.

I figured Tax savings would be an incentive and the sunny weather. But you may be right, I may have been a little cheap on their deals. In the case they need an extra 5mil, maybe Lou retires? Or they could always send Hoffman over in the Kessel deal and retain Vatrano or Tippet.... could be a big offseason for the Panthers!

Key word is POTENTIAL. Even in his slump he still has lots of value but if you look at Winnipeg's roster they need centers more than wingers. Lots of talented wingers in the lineup. Hurts to loose Laine but Zib would be amazing on the Jets. Also like i said this is more an idea not a full trade. Maybe NYR send some additional assets back to Jets.

Well he is a fantastic young top-pairing guy. I figure Zaitsev needs to go to equalize the cap, Liligren is a highly-touted prospect that if he pans out is what Parayko is now, and I love Kappy but we got a strong RW and St louis will want some proven NHLer in return. Picks will also be pretty low.
Gotta give to get.
If you really want maybe they remove the picks or downgrade Kappy or Liligren for Johnson/Bracco or Sandin instead

Buddy not sure if your a Carolina fan or something but you are way out of line. Kapanen is not just an alright prospect. This kid is a legit NHL winger that we just don't have room for. He will probably turn into a top 6 forward that plays both the PP and PK. Wouldn't call that nothing.... Also johnsson and rosen are projects but have alright potential. I've seen many other trades for Pesce by leafs fans and this is by no means cheap compared to what some others say. Give me a break not a chance Nylander or Marner is traded for Pesce. If we trade one of them it'd be for a guy like Parayko

Signing our core
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>krakowitz</b></div><div>I'd think JVR would get a little more, but where did Manson come from? Who did the Leafs' give up for him? Curious to see what you think his value is</div></div>
Looking at similar contracts for top LW around 5.5 looks right. Lucic only got 6, Ladd was 5.5, Schwartz is 5.3, E Kane is 5.25. So i think somewhere around there is reasonable. JVR likes it here and i think if he's bought in to the future of the leafs he'll sign for a tad less (even though 5.5 isn't that much of a discount).
For the Manson contract it doesn't necessarily NEED to be him but someone of a similar style with a similar contract range. However some if there was a trade for Manson specifically i think he could be had a bit cheaper because of the expansion draft. Maybe like a Komarov, Lindberg and a 4th. I have mixed feelings about Manson because I think he has potential to be really good but also might just end up as a bottom pairing guy. If his price was too high I would rather just search out for a cheaper option.

Also why do we take Fehr's contract on for a 4th round pick then trade him away with the 4th?</div></div>
Roy is a decent prospect but it could be switched for Sam Steel or Max Jones. Not quite sure how much Anaheim values this guy. This is more of a frame for the deal not an exact offer.
Then the reason we give up a 4th for vegas to take Fehr is so that we don't loose anyone important in the draft. By acquiring Manson we would want to do 8/1 protection (Rielly, Gardiner, Manson, Carrick, Bozak, Kadri, Brown, Leipsic, Andersen). The Bozak trade wouldn't happen till after the expansion draft so we would need to protect him. Personally I don't mind that we gave up Corrado to essentially make sure none of Leivo, Komorav, Rychel or our other guys get taken if that's what the Fehr trade comes down to.

The reason Tampa does this is because after shipping out Filpulla (who was overpayed but still important to their team) they lack that 3C behind Stamkos and Johnson also since Toronto retains half the salary, this is likely the cheapest 3C guy they could get. Tough to give up Howden but that's what Toronto would want in order to replenish our center depth
