I didn't give much thought into constructing a realistic offer...I have no idea what Habs need. I was just pointing to the news that they broke off extension talks. I imagine he would be made available now.

Your gonna need to give the habs a top prospect and a 1st round pick if you want Gallagher. A 4th liner and a 4th round pick won't get you a 1st line player especially not Gallagher. Plus, despite these rumors, my inside sources tell me it's fake. The TSN reporter got its source from someone who obviously had no idea what they were talking about. MTL management does not have a history releasing these kinds of things. No one knew they were even looking at Tofollio until they signed him and yet everyone thought they were going after Hall. In the end, they never even offered Hall a contract. Gallagher is not getting traded.

I didn’t say Smith, just not Merk and a 4th. Maybe Merk and a 3rd or a 2nd.

Rick is a buffon. I dont trust him in the least. I see the LeBrun tweet. OK. It still doesn't mean he's getting traded. Bergevin is going all in this year with Price at 33 and Weber at 35! The price the Jersey fan offered, they'd get a year of their best forward and let him walk instead.

Not worth it at the price the habs want. He's UFA, and will likely not want to sign in NJD after his current contract expires.

He's gonna want 7 million per year, long term.

This isn't surprising. It was always going to be a difficult negotiation. Absolutely nothing new here, he's not being shopped but sure let's have at the fantasy.
Look at the Stone price. It would most likely have to be a trade with an extension in place while coming back to MTL an A+prospect and futures

Agree. Hope habs pay him well. He doesn't fit NJD winning timelines though. We're not going to be competitive for 3-5 years. Gallagher will be 33-34? Not sure his playing style will age well either. Not worth it for our franchise.

What people also need to realize is that his style is not conducive to value over the long term. He's an absolute warrior but his style makes him injury prone.
Broke his hand twice taking shots from the point (Weber, Boychuk) maybe a bit of a fluke but the guy's body is breaking down. He fits a contender that wants to milk a good 3-4 years out of him and where they will eat the last couple of years!
