They added quite well. I think if the season works out their way they will be in the hunt for a wilde card spot

Why do this? Comparable scoring and you already have Byron plus he’s a good defender

I like the upside of Duclair more than the defensive consistency of Byron, plus he is 31 he was a very late bloomer. We have several capable two way forwards, plenty to kill penalties, Duclair was closing in on a 30 goal season last year and i think adding him at a decent cost allows us to roll three legit scoring lines with a good mix of players.

I'm trying out a new form response for all these trades where teams are trying to get rid of older vets they don't want anymore. It's not about what Ottawa needs, it's about getting rid of a particular player.

"Insert players name" is a good player. He’s probably "insert extra age years here" years older than the optimal age Ottawa is looking for in a trade and keep situation, so he’s a short timer in Ottawa, and Ottawa would have to trade him. When Ottawa is seriously competing, he’ll be "insert declining age here" or more, which are declining years. Ottawa loaded up on draft picks last draft, now they're looking for complimentary players in the appropriate age range and aren't looking for picks specifically.

he isnt going there to be a center piece of their future, thats why habs include a 2nd and 3rd round pick. Byron still a very serviceable third liner forward and is assistant captain material and can bring some leadership and a strong work ethic to that locker room.
