Description
Unless we trade someone, this is our team....

Schultz was a very......interesting......sign, especially for that much money.....Is he even a top 4 RHD? Maybe they are looking for move Jensen? That wouldn't make sense as I would take late-season Jensen over Schultz every day of the week. But signing Schultz for that much money seems like they want to put him on the second pair with Orlov? Not the signing I would have wanted.

Here's hoping Panik is gone to clear up some much needed cap room. We still need depth forwards. One to fill in on the 3rd line and one (minimum) as a healthy scratch.

I think Dillon can be a great partner for Schultz. Low term too it’s fine. I think Shatty would’ve been a great fit too. Honestly I like the defence

I think Shattenkirk was avoided since he didn't play all that great with the Caps when he was acquired at the TDL a few years ago. I don't love the contract for Schultz, but I also doubt that he'll play with Dillon since Orlov and Carlson didn't have that great of chemistry.

One thing that Schultz adds to this lineup that was missing was the fact that Orlov wasn't the best PPQB for the second power play unit. Schultz being a righty will help set up the Ovi one timer since the angle on that pass is better from a righty.

I’m hoping you guys can win it all for King. That Gudas deal makes all those Shattenkirk/Schultz deals look bad. I guess the Florida tax situation played a part in a lower AAV for him

Yeah, I'm also interested to see what this defensive group can do with Lavy's system. I agree with OP about trading Panik or Hagelin to free up some cap too. Worst case scenario for Schultz is he gets traded for a fifth next offseason like Ryan Murray and Erik Gudbranson did lol

At least someone likes the defense. Makes me feel a little better. I think Lavi will do wonders for Schultz. I don't think the caps would have brought Schultz in without Lavi approving. So at least there is that. I do think Panik is traded (more likely than Hags). I think Panik is traded and Caps sign 2 depth forwards with the extra money. After that is done, I do not see any more moves.

I dunno if post-ankle-shattering Schultz is actually any improvement on Orlov as a PP QB. Schultz and Orlov were 57th and 58th respectively in PP GF/60 last season, and Schultz was getting much more regular minutes there (2:45 a night vs 1:25 for Orlov).

This is an awful signing but I'll tell ya this, if your gonna get 2015-17 Justin Schultz then this is a win, but if you guys get 2017-20 Justin Schultz then this is an awful signing. Schultz can be a top 4 D but he hasn't shown it. Take care of Schultzy, just like how you guys are taking care of Hags

Expect Schultz to be traded next offseason. Listen he was passed up by John Marino on our depth chart and he was a liability on defense. I am rooting for Schultz to regain his magic from the cups runs he had for us. I'm hoping he does well with the Caps.
