Description

Well...who knows with this team. At least one of Pettersson or JJ needs to be moved and it may take Pettersson to get JJ moved. The pick from NJ may need to be changed depending on retention. My thought here is that NJ has 1 LD signed and they need a goalie. This trade gives them a 2nd pair LD and a 3rd pair (sorta) LD along with the starter. Zajac with retention gives the Pens a decent 3rd C. I'm sure JR will prefer to waste more money on Tanev, but I'd much rather he tried to sign Shattenkirk. The Calgary trade is simply because I can't find room for Simon in my line-up, he could go anywhere.

I like your thought process when it comes to NJ but I also think there is no chance Ty Smith doesn't make the team at LD and this only makes sense if we find a way to ship Butcher somewhere. The Murray deal is only if Cory retires or is bought out. I am not hearing any news of that happening.

What? If Pettersson is the 2nd best defensive D man, than what does that make Dumo? Dumo is the last (well 2nd last after Marino) defenseman that the Pens should consider trading. He only costs $4.1M, which is cheap for a top pair d-man. There is no way that any team would be giving up the value that Dumo has to the Pens. Ideally JR could have found a Matheson type player that is a RD instead of an LD, but he didn't and now he has over $16M in LD. Something has to give and it won't be Dumo...I hope (JR better not touch him)

Dumo may have lost a step after his ankle injury, but he is still way better than Petts. Also Petts had Marino making him look good most of the season.

Dumo is miles better than MP (and Marino) defensively, I agree don't trade MP tho

I understand not wanting to trade MP, but who do you trade then? Obviously all of us fans want JJ gone, but Sully and JR don't and no one wants him. We seem to agree that Dumo shouldn't be traded, trading Riikola is pointless and trading Letang would just mean that the team is giving up on their window. If MP has to go to get JJ gone, then it's a sacrifice that needs to be made.
