Description
Canes need to move one or more of Nino, Gardiner, or Dzingel who all underperformed relative to their contracts.

Dzingel is likely the easiest to trade. He has the smallest cap hit and only one year left, and his shooting percentage was far below his career average. For all those reasons, I'd prefer he stayed if Canes cannot obtain a top 6 winger in the offseason.
Gardiner is tricky, perhaps he could still energize a power play for a team with that need. His contract isn't terrible in dollars at $4mil, but there are 3 years remaining. He also looked much better at the end of the season. That said, he was a scratch at times in the postseason and looked atrocious in the first half of season with Canes.
Nino might be the toughest guy to move. His cap hit is $5.2 mil for next 2 years. He is still just one season removed from incredible second half when he joined the Canes. I wouldn't be shocked if he found his groove again, but also if he doesn't it's really problematic for the Canes top 6 because he's just not a good bottom six guy (either is Dzingel though).

I'm not saying Canes can do all of these, but maybe 1 or 2.

Helm would likely be bought out in this scenario, but team might just hold onto him as the designated healthy scratch who adds depth if injuries pile up.

Kings aren't paying a third to take Gardiner(for three years) for Bokk. Every team is up against the cap and only a few teams have the space to take something bad for a year let alone several, payment will need to be steep.

Yeah, that's definitely going to be an issue this year. Bokk is in the top tier of Canes prospects, and it was hard to add him to sweeten the deal. I thought Kings might be interested because of Bokk, but also because Gardiner could help with their PP.

Brady Skjei isn’t very good so Jets say no thank you, and Dzingel is meh, the jets would say no thank you.

If Jets don't like Skjei's game, then no way this gets done. I would think the 13th overall pick this year has to at least grab their attention? They have to send some salary to Jets in this trade, but it can't be Slavin, Pesce, Aho, TT, Svech, or Necas.

I think it’s more likely the canes move Skjei than Gardiner. Dzingle is definitely the most likely to be moved, I’d imagine we could pretty easily flip him for like 3rd. Nino I would be ok to hold on to for this season and have him in the middle 6. He would need to be moved next offseason which would be much easier especially if he has a good year

If Skjei could bring his game back from a few years ago this would be a slam dunk for the Jets, but if he falls flat man that contract would suck. The 13oa is nice as it could be Mercer, Jarvis or Schneider.

Dzingel looked way better in the postseason but if you want to trade him ok. Gardiner could be traded without losing a top prospect or we should buy him out instead at that cost. Skjei has been rumored to be asked about by Edmonton which might land us puljujarvi. Nino has positive value and if not then don't trade him especially for Helm. I would say skjei to edm for puljujarvi. gardiner to whoever wants him. Nino and a first for a top 6 winger.

Gardiner’s contract isn’t such an albatross that the Kings need heavy overpayment to take him, but it’s more along the lines of him not being the guy the Kings are looking for. Kings are looking for a DFD, since they’ve already got the OFD in Doughty. I like Bokk, and certainly would be interested in getting him if the Kings were to package him with Gardiner. There’s several options the Kings would look at beforehand, but I don’t see why they wouldn’t at least circle back to something like this if the other deals fell through.

If the Kings were to acquire Gardiner, he’s a player the Kings could simply leave unprotected for Seattle, since it’s looking like they’ll be leaving guys like Grundstrom unprotected as well, as well as the concern with getting MacDermid games for exposure disperses. Play him on the second pairing with Walker, bump Anderson to the third pairing.

So I know not alot of my Detroit brothers are going to disagree but I think gardiner could go to Detroit. We have zero offense on the left and a guy who gets hurt way to much. Carolina is going to have to give a bit a 2nd rounder or someone like foegele maybe.

keep Gards, the only difference between TOR Gards (who was considered a steal at 4 mil) and CAR Gards is his on ice finishing which he has almost no control over went from around average to one of the worst in the league (and his defense was solid)

Not sure how much you watched the Canes season, but Gardiner's defense was THE problem. And terrible turnovers too. He improved once he was playing more sheltered minutes on 3rd pairing.
