This would be a win if the leafs could pull this off but I don’t think that a severson for nylander trade makes sense for the Devils. They can’t make an even bigger hole in their defense to get a winger

I would be very hesitant to put Robbie in the top 6 straight away. I wouldn't hate him taking shifts there, but if want to start him lower in the lineup.

We are about as void of talent at RW as we are at RD so the deal could work but we wouldn't trade that first. Probably the Van 1st. There are rumors Devils are looking to improve the blueline in the draft and trade the Van pick for a RW.

This was the rumored trade with Subban instead of Severson (and different amounts retained). But Severson at $3.5m is more valuable than Subban at $4.5 million. I’d think a pick would go back to NJD if they have to eat 3 years of the contract.

We can’t thin out the defense to fill a hole at RW, especially when we need to develop Blackwood and a few young defenseman. The value that Severson brings to the devils rn is more than they would get in a trade for him so to me, this is only a trade that you can think about if you have a replacement for him to eat up a good chunk of his minutes
