Tampa doesn't have the 2.5m AAV to give him. Sergachev and Cirelli will combine for ~10m and there is only ~5m in cap space. They would need to trade 2 core players in order to get everyone under the cap

Sergachev and Cirelli will come in around 9M not 10. Cernak definitely wont cost 2.5M to resign

The Analytics contract estimator says most likely contract is 2 yrs at 2.5m AAV. Kinda makes sense for a guy averaging 19 minutes TOI per game for the past 2 seasons

what contract projector are you using? Evolving Hockey is almost always higher than usual

Their model underestimated Brodin's extension AAV by 1.5m. Their model tends to overestimate offensive defensemen and underestimate stay-at-home defensemen

I think he'll get more than 2.5m. I'd give him the Scandella contract without thinking twice.

Pass from blues. Steen isn't waiving to go to New Jersey. Even if he did. The blues aren't giving up a 1st, especially in this years draft to move a couple mill from Steen

He has no arbitration rights, he cant really argue a major raise. He will get similar to whatever Philip Myers gets

The Steen trade is modeled off of Marleau. If the Blues are willing to lose Pietrangelo to UFA, then this trade doesn't happen. Steen absolutely would waive his NTC because the terms of the trade guarantee a buyout, which would allow him to sign wherever he wants

except there are better options to make before doing that one. And the Marleau and Steen scenario isn't apples to apples

Maatta is not a cap dump. If you think so, for the same package we are happy to give you De Haan. Arguably one is better then the other

The Devils have no interest in De Haan. He can't stay healthy and has been replacement level the last 2 seasons. What do you see as Maatta's value? I've been seeing it as a 3rd round pick in a lot of CHI AGMs
ChiHawk a aimé ceci.

Maatta would be maybe a 3rd but more likely a 4th round pick IMO. He's still only 26 years old so there is some upside in him yet as he is just coming off a 2nd half of the season that saw his best play in his career (my opinion). He also carries a cheap $680K buyout which makes him low risk. I hope the Hawks hang on to him and move De Haan but that is unlikely. He's a very good 3rd pairing and okay 2nd pairing.
