Getting Pietro is the ONLY WAY we move Letang which is crazy

Description
DISCLAIMER-I DON'T THINK LETANG WILL BE TRADED OR SHOULD BE!

but why not experiment...?

So Letang has a 18 team trade list or a 13 team no-trade list, however you want to look at it. he is from Quebec so I doubt he'd block MTL. MTL would have to move petry or something so accommodate Letang probably. but for the sake of this post, let's go with it...so mccann's rumoured to be on the block IMHO just because of his 20 something game goals drought...
Letang=Danault, Primeau, 3rd, 5th
McCann>Lehkonen
Larmi, Aberg, 7th<Fleury
so I think that deal is close to fair.

Murray is as good as gone. GMJR reportedly is asking a 1st +, which I think he will get close to...I think CGY is a legit trade partner.
Murray=1st, 5th
Zavgorodny, Bennett=3rd, angello, almeida

to move JJ I think Legare (3rd) Bjorkvist (2nd) is enough....

someone has to replace Letang so why not go for the big fish pietrangelo...

random thoughts:
-Danault would be a great 2 way #3C and could fill in in case of injury...
-some mix of Lehkonen, Danault, Hornqvist, and Simon would be a corsi juggernaut!
-Bennet can slot in the bottom-6 fine I think for whoever Will (not if) get hurt...
-With Jarry, Desmith, and Primeau that should be a good 1/2/3 goalie group
-the special teams looks good on paper (or in this case, screen)
-hopefully Rierden will PUT A RH SHOT ON THE LEFT HALF WALL ON THE POWER PLAY!!! (rust, Kapanen)
-Bennet and pietrangelo slot in nicely to the PP
-there are a TON of PK options for sure...the top-4 D can do it for sure + a mix of ZAR, Tanev, Bleuger, Kapanen, Danault, Bennet, Rust, Lehkonen, and even Sid and Jake if everyone else is hurt....oh please no!
-Finally Simon doesn't have to play.....but he will anyway somehow if healthy...just because....he always does.....(when rust or Kapanen finds himself on the 3rd line....)

Too much value going to Pitt for an aging D. The habs are not in win mode now to overpay for Letang

Danault also is rumoured to have no interest in re-signing in MTL, if he is playing 3C, which is entirely likely considering they have Suzuki and JK who need more minutes. Lehkonen is a third liner. So the only part of your "future" is Primeau, and goalies are very tough to predict. I think MTL would be better off just trading Danault at deadline for a combo of picks/ prospects if they arent in playoff contention, because i doubt he is going to resign, and they could get a nice return.

Okay that's a rumour and that doesn't make him valueless. It's also rumoured he's not happy playing 3rd line C which he would be playing in Pittsburgh as well. Goalies are tough to predict but he is our best goalie prospect and he played solid in the nhl even though it was a short sample. Lehkonen played very well in the playoffs and is amazing on the pk. I also think he is going to get better. You also ignored the fact that the return In this trade answers none of our needs, we need a LD and a goal scorer.
You also litteraly said you think "MTL would be better off just trading Danault at deadline for a combo of picks/ prospects if they arent in playoff contention" which in this trade we lose a 3rd and a 5th and we only get a 7th. We also get an old.
Letang is essentially no use for MTL in there future.

Petry on his next contract is probably going to get close to 7 million long term. Thats going to be a much worse contract then what letang is currently making. And Danault is going to walk from MTL anyways. this is a steal for MTL

Danault is not getting trade, and I rather have Petry and Weber at RD than having Letang whose made of glass.

i get that, but this trade is awful for pittsburgh value wise, and even if MTL doesnt want to keep letang, they could flip him for more than what they paid for. Overall its just a pointless trade that wont happen, but in terms of value, pens are losing it

Letang has had injury issues sure, but so has Weber, and he has much more miles on him, so not sure what your point was there...

Lehkonen is 25 yo and part of the future, an excellent 3rd liner

Danault will continue to play 15-18 minutes a game and be a huge part of the team. He was dropped down the lineup in the playoffs to get the kids experience and confidence. They know how much he means to the team and he won’t be walking when they offer him 6x6. Unless somebody pays above and beyond he’s worth too much to trade away given what he does for the team and what he will do for Suzuki and JK growth. No way Danault is traded I don’t buy it

Weber broke his foot during a miserable season blocking a shot that broke the skate itself ahahah. So instead of rehabing and going back into the game, he and management decided to fix something in his knee he had for a few years. That's why he was out for a longtime. Otherwise, he is made out of steel. Now... letang had shoulder, knee and concussion issues over many seasons.

I can see where you are coming from but the value for MTL is atrocious. We are losing picks, our top goalie prospect (price is not young), one of our best defense prospects, our number 1 c even if he won't sign back, and a 25 yo 3rd liner potentially a 2nd liner (who knows) that was still able to clap Pittsburgh's 3rd line.

BTW Lol, Danault is not getting traded - the english hockey world can't translate french... and it shows.

Danault was asked by a dumb journalist about how he felt " becoming the 3rd Center he is supposed to be"

And his answer was mostly a f*ck you to that journalist... "stfu, I think I have proven enough with this club to be seen as more than a 3rd pairing center". Which is basically the quote.

The guy drove one of the best 5v5 line in the league, while playing against the best offensive lines... so I understand why he was frustrated with the question.

Now, I see why It can be misleading when you see a headline saying "Danault is unhappy" then seeing a quote out of context.

Danault is MB's guy... MB drafted him in Chicago, then traded for him. He is a cornerstone in both Montreal's 5v5 and defense. He is a great 200ft player that is way too important to mtl to be traded.

Lastly, he is a hometown boy. One of the few french Quebecker on the team..

So... he is not getting traded... unless it's something stupid to refuse.

lol, you guys were trading a few weeks ago Domi for Bugstad and Mccann and a 2nd...

Bugstad was traded for a 7th round pick... it just goes to show.

he still has had injury issues over the last few seasons. And if you want to call Letang an old declining D then what is Weber? Again, im not trying to say Weber is a "bad D" because obviously he's not, but if you want to use injuries as a way to bash Letang, the same argument can be applied to Weber.

I think he's more talking leadership wise for the future. He's only 25 and could be a late bloomer, he doesn't play on great line, he was moved around a lot, he doesn't play on the pp, and he had 27 points in 70 games last season.

He’s 2c in mtl and can be 2c in 3/4 of the league. Until JK is ready to actually be that guy he’s not. Suzuki and Danault will be the top 2 guys for now

The only "core" players MTL has atm are Price, Weber, Suzuki, Kotk, and MAYBE Gally. Everyone else could be had for the right price

and what if by trade deadline, JK has 40 points in 60 games? That would be showing that he is ready for a second line roll, which would make Danault expendable because teams shouldnt be paying a 3C 6 million

It's not written in stone he will be a 3rd line C. JK played bad last season but had an amazing playoffs. I don't see him jumping to 1st line C or even 2nd line yet. Also MTL doesn't really play the traditional 1st line, 2nd line, 3rd line, 4th line minutes wise. They are more balanced.

to start the season i agree he wont be traded, but like i said, by trade deadline, depending how Suzuki/Jk are playing, he could be moved.

If that’s the case you make your best efforts to get him to sign for less because he should be able to see the chance the team has to contend if they have all 3
