Description

On Boychuk; the AAV of his contract is $6M for two years but it does appear his signing bonus of $2.75M for the 20-21 season has already been paid by the Isles leaving only a $1.25M base salary this upcoming season. $4M is owed in 2021-22 (signing bonus [2.75M] and salary [1.25M]). His actual payout of $5.25M over two years is well below his cap hit. It might be a contract Ottawa is interested in acquiring to get to the cap floor if incentivized.

It’ll take a helluva lot more than that to dump 2 years of 6mil and you wouldn’t get a high 3rd either. The Isles are trading from a position of major weakness, right now they’re the biggest offer sheet bait in the league

I dont see Ottawa being a home for Boychuk. They've got a lot of young guys who are going to start needing NHL time and will have no trouble reaching the floor with Chabots new deal starting.

One of komarov/hickey is more likely. You can trade komarov + bellows.

Obviously if the isles trade one of komarov/hickey, they’ll have to include picks/prospects. I just don’t think it’s smart to move boychuk or Ladd, who will cost too much to move.

We’d have to give up more, but Ottawa potentially could work. The reason why it doesn’t is because Boychuk has an 8-team trade list that I can’t imagine a Canadian non-contender would be on. The way I see it, if we can find a team that he wants to go to that will take at least 2/3 of his contract and we have to give up max 2 “valuable” assets, I’d do it
