Description
Here are some moves that could make the Habs better both in the short term and long term. In other words, how to improve the team for next year without sacrificing the future.

Trade with EDM:
I think EDM could use Tatar to play LW in their top-6, either with Mcdavid or Draisaitl. He could easily reach 70 points there. Kris Russell is a cap dump which is why the oilers have to give up more value. I think it's fair for both teams and fits their needs.

Trade with SJS:
I'm not sure San Jose would be willing to trade Meier, however if they are I think this is a fair package for him, with the 16th pick to make up the difference in value with Domi. San Jose can play Domi as their 2C or as a LW in their top-6, and the 1st is huge for them since their prospect pool is depleted. MTL gets a much-needed young scoring winger to play with Suzuki or KK.

Trade with CAR:
The Canes allegedly want to trade Niederreiter to free up cap space (they have to fill their roster + sign Svechnikov next year). It's a great opportunity for MTL to acquire a capable middle-6 winger before their prospects are ready. I think Car would be happy to essentially obtain a 3rd round pick for Nino who played mostly on their 4th line in the playoffs, while freeing 4millions.

Hope these are realistic and fair, let me know what you think!

Not enough for Meier

What would you want MTL to add? Poehling or Mete? A 2nd? I just don't think that Meier's value is THAT far off Domi's since he's also had only one very good season, is pretty much the same age and should have a similar contract.

Oilers say no. If Russel is traded this offseason for salary dump reasons it won't be for that much. But regardless he won't be. He's got 1 year left at 4 mil. His value is higher then "salary dump status" a team could use his services and they would have to pay for them other wise the Oilers will hold on to him and use him. Maybe trade him at the trade deadline and command a 3/4 from another team as a rental.

There is no scenario in which Meier for Domi makes sense for SJ.

probably another top prospect or a high draft pick. Wilson will only consider trading Meier if it's an overpay

The value isn't far off, but Meier means more to the Sharks than his actual value. That's the issue.
