Sorry... but Korpisalo is far better then Kevleniks. We have to expose a goalie. No reason for Columbus to make this trade unless we get a top 6 center back. Kevleniks will be a backup at best.

Korpisalo gives us an extra year at a very reasonable cap hit.

In a regular offseason I would concur that CBJ is set with Korpisalo and Elvis. However with the Kraken draft looming, it’s highly likely CBJ loses Korpisalo or Kivlenieks. They may as well get a return on one of them, and with the goalie market flooded this summer, the return may be greater for Korpisalo than for Matiss. And even that return may not be as great due to the flood of goalies on the market (3rd and 7th for Jake Allen as an example).

Why are we worried about cap hit? Do we not have enough cap space? Makes no sense to pay a premium for a low cap hit when you have over 23M (Gaborik on LTIR) in cap space.

Just sign Khudobin for 5Mx2. Better goalie and free...

If Seattle takes Kevleniks I’d be ecstatic... that means they skipped on taking Murray, Savard, Nuttivaara, Kukan, Robinson, or anyone else. The likely hood that Seattle takes a goalie from Columbus is very very low as there are other better options out there then a guy should would at max be a backup.... Seattle wouldn’t take a 3rd strong goalie over a roster player or someone who could likely be in their top 4 day one.

I think cap space should always be top of mind. It's a gift and a weapon right now, but with Chabot's $8 mil kicking in this year, Brady needing a hefty raise next year, Stutzle (or Byfield) / Drysdale (or Ray mond) in a few years, we go from cap luxury to up against it pretty quick. Additionally, acquiring Korpisalo's cap friendly hit for two years allows Dorion to perhaps take on some bad contracts in exchange for prospects/picks for the next two years. You know CBJ much better than I ever will. This scenario is based on the NHL news I've been seeing and reading about Columbus' goaltending and the upcoming expansion draft, and the likelihood that the team will lose Korpisalo or Kevleniks. What I have read is that Kevleniks seemingly has a better trajectory as a high end prospect and is the preferred goalie to protect, with Elvis exempt from the draft. Regardless, the Blue Jackets need to acquire/trade/draft some goalies with last names that are easier to spell.

The Sens don't need 22M in cap space for the next 2 years to take on bad contracts. I'd be surprised if they have less than 10M in cap space for next season with Gaborik on IR instead of LTIR.

Giving up picks for a 2 year goalie when we aren't even competitive is a bad move. Not to mention he's one of the most over rated goalies in the league right now.

Hard no on Kivvy being considered one of our high-end prospects. I'd honestly rate his future value (in three years, say) as fifth or sixth in the Columbus system. Elvis, Korpi, Daniil Tarasov, Veini Vehvilainen, then either Kivvy or Peter Thome.

Matiss Kivlenieks, god bless him, is a 24 year old whose best AHL season was a .904 save %. He’s a great story - undrafted goalie signed straight from the USHL - but if Seattle takes him, I’d drive him to the airport myself.
