Ducks Fans - Willing to move Gibson

Description
Would Ducks fans entertain offers on Gibson? As on Oilers fan, I am not 100% sure on their team situation, but I would imagine they are in the beginning of a rebuilding phase. Best case scenario, a rebuild take 3-6 years to begin to make runs at the playoffs, and 5+ years to be cup contenders.
Based on these relatively arbitrary assumptions, that runs through most of Gibsons contract and prime years. With the current demand for goalies, I would think Gibson would fetch an incredible return.

My trade is probably off in value but just taking a random stab at it.
- Koskinen to be the new goalie (only 2 years left and put up good numbers)
- Russell, Anaheim has cap room, Russells only due $1.5M in actual dollars.
- Broberg, our top d-prospect. I'd prefer not to move him, but open to it to solidify our starting goalie for the foreseeable future.
- 14th overall pick, great pick in a deep draft. Would be their 3rd 1st rounder in the 2020 draft. Good start to a rebuild
***if not enough, could add Puljujarvi. If too much, maybe change Broberg to a couple slightly lesser prospects.

I just want to hear Ducks fans current thoughts on their situation and maybe a probability of moving Gibson.

Better idea-Take Drysdale at 6 if he's still there, if not, grab whichever forward has dropped to you, then at 26, take whichever of Barron or Grans is available (Preferably Grans). Then, with the $9+ mil in cap space, target a solid RD, and someone else in FA.

When we're talking about Broberg, sure, he might someday be a top 4 D, but the Ducks have Hampus and Fowler, and then any of Guhle, Djoos, Mahura or Larsson to fill in the roster.

Or, if you're hellbent on trading Gibby, anything less than a top 6 fwd, a 1st and a top prospect would be a huge loss for the Ducks. He's one of, if not the top goalies in the league, has a terrific contract with a whole lot of term on it.

That could also work. Idk I’m upset that Anaheim hit their rebuilding stage when Gibson started to get on his game. Really bad timing. Just hope Gibson realizes that this team is going to be bad for another 3-5 years so I hope he’s able to put up with that or if he would want out. Hope he stays though

Plus Anaheim is wasting Gibson’s years. Edmonton has goaltending issues. It would help both sides. Anaheim builds defensive depth, Edmonton gets an elite goalie.

Mannnn, that's like trying to say that the Oilers have wasted years of McDavid. 17 playoff games over 5 seasons? Ducks will be fine. Adding a mid 1st and Broberg (Who I'm not really sold on anyway), would be selling very low.

Meh, I'm optimistic that it'll be more like 1-2 years. If they can tighten up the D by adding a solid player, they will surprise a ton of teams.

This is pretty much the premise of the whole idea. An elite goalies who prime years simply don't align with the teams competitive window. As a fan, you hate to move him, but maybe management considers it because of this.

I completely get it that you'd need lots in a trade, especially since Edmonton is a divisional rival. I would say Vancouver pretty much had a perfect rebuild. 2015 was their last 100+ pt season, they did a great job drafting and now in 2020 they are competitive. Thats where I base the minimum 5 years for a successful rebuild from. Anaheim had their last 100+ pt season in 2018, then followed it up with 80 and 67 pts. And Im not trying to be rude, but I haven't really heard much hype from any of their recent draft prospects. So give them until 2024-25 is likely BEST CASE for them to be competitive again. Gibsons already 33 at this point. Thats just my take though

I know, Zegras is our only promising prospect that makes Anaheim’s prospect pool somewhat relevant. But Anaheim has potential sleeper prospects in Thrun and Groulx. This upcoming draft will really decide how long this rebuild is going to take. Vancouver or NYR are perfect examples of successful rebuilds. They were competitive in 2015 and hit a slump. Both teams had successful drafting and they’re looking like playoff contenders, soon to be cup contenders. Really great models to follow

Fingers crossed for you guys! Definitely more valuable to the Oilers than the Ducks at this point.

I know you threw this trade out there to get the discussion started, but it would need serious adjustment to be fair value and of use to Anaheim.

Start with replacing Broberg with Bear or Bouchard.

Forget about the Russell rental even if you don't consider him a cap dump.

Add Yamamoto because a top-6 forward would be required and you don't have one that would be mutually agreeable except him.

Add a fourth first-round-pick equivalent. I don't think Koskinen is it. Lavoie might be.

I mean fair, like if I was a Ducks fan, I would absolutely not want to move him. But from the perspective from management, you have a potentially Elite goalie, signed long-term, but not real chance of being cup contenders for another 5+ years, in which said goalie will be in his early 30s. From my perspective, thats a case of a goalies prime just not lining up with the teams current state. And I completely understand the idea of still icing a competitive goalie to give your team a chance night in and night out

If Gibson was to be moved out. I think the ducks would ask for Draisaitl. Not that they are comparable. But that is how untouchable he is. And he is on one of the best Goalie contracts for another 7 season and is only 27.
